THE LONG PRAYER 🙏 OF ANTIOCHUS

O Lord, the God of powers and God of all flesh, who lives in the highest and looks upon the lowly, who searches the hearts and reins, and clearly perceives the secrets of men—light without beginning, endless life, everlasting salvation, the maker of all creatures, visible and invisible; the unchangeable and unalterable God—look down, O Lord, and hear my prayer.

I entreat You, O Father of mercies and God of all comfort. You know my evil deeds, my sins, and my negligence. I stand before You guilty of many faults; I dare not lift my eyes to heaven. But You, Lord, are my hope, my refuge, and my strength.

Stretch forth Your mighty hand and guide me in the path of Your commandments. Make my heart pure from wicked thoughts, my conscience clean from all deceit. Drive far from me the evil one and all his craft, for You alone are mighty and strong.

Establish me in Your fear and strengthen me in Your love. Grant me watchfulness of mind, sobriety of heart, and steadfastness in prayer. Let me not be shaken by the storms of the enemy, nor fall through the weakness of my flesh.

Keep me, O Lord, from vain thoughts, idle words, and unprofitable deeds. Deliver me from pride, anger, greed, and every passion that darkens the soul. Give me humility, gentleness, patience, and self-control.

Grant that I may walk in Your truth, fulfill Your will, and glorify Your holy Name all the days of my life. Teach me to do what is pleasing in Your sight, for You are my God, and with You is the fountain of life.

Remember, Lord, Your Church; defend her with Your mighty power. Give peace to the world, good governance to rulers, safety to travelers, health to the sick, rest to the weary, and forgiveness to all who repent.

Remember the poor and the afflicted, the widows and the orphans; comfort the sorrowful, free the captives, strengthen the weak, and return those who have gone astray.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great goodness. Blot out my transgressions; create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence but uphold me with Your mighty hand.

Let Your holy angels guard my soul, that I may lie down in peace and rise up in joy, offering thanksgiving to Your holy Name. For You are blessed forever. Amen.

My Lord & Savior!

This verse comes from Jesus’ words to His disciples during the Last Supper. He was teaching them about real love — sacrificial love.
It’s not just about feelings or words, but action — the willingness to give up everything, even life itself, for the sake of others.

Spiritual meaning
• Jesus was foreshadowing His own sacrifice on the cross — the ultimate act of love for humanity.
• It’s also a call to believers: to love others selflessly, to put others’ well-being before personal comfort or gain.
• It reminds us that true love costs something — it involves service, humility, and sometimes pain.

In simple terms

The greatest kind of love is when you care for someone so deeply that you’d give up your own life or comfort for their good.

Matthew 10:33, where Jesus says:

“But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.”

Jesus was preparing His followers for persecution and rejection.
He wanted them to understand that following Him might bring opposition — but faithfulness mattered more than fear.

So when He says “If you deny Me before men…” He means:
• If we are ashamed or afraid to admit our faith in public,
• Or if we reject Him to fit in or avoid criticism,
then we show that our loyalty is to people’s approval, not to God.

And in turn, when we stand before God, Jesus will honor those who honored Him — and deny those who denied Him.

❤️ Simple interpretation

Jesus is saying: Don’t hide your faith to please people. Stand firm, even when it costs something.
He promises to stand for you before God if you stand for Him before the world.🌎

The Reason for Hatred

Jesus warned that being associated with His name would bring opposition:

“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.”
— John 15:18

Why? Because His truth exposes darkness.
When you live by His Spirit, your life becomes a light that reveals what’s false and unjust. That light challenges the world’s pride, greed, and self-sufficiency.

So persecution is not proof of failure — it’s evidence that Christ is shining through you.

Persuaded and Empowered

The apostles were deeply persuaded — not by human reasoning, but by the power of the Holy Spirit.

“And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.”
— Acts 4:33

Even when they were arrested, beaten, and told to stop preaching, they said:

“We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”
— Acts 4:20

Their persuasion came from knowing Him personally, not just knowing about Him.

The Promise of Protection and Reward

Though He warned of hatred, Jesus also promised strength:

“But not a hair of your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life.”
— Luke 21:18–19 (NIV)

This means the world can touch your body but not your destiny.
Your spirit, your calling, and your eternal reward are secured in Him.

Application for You

When you live boldly in Christ’s name:
• People may misunderstand or reject you.
• But your peace will remain unshaken because it’s not rooted in approval — it’s rooted in His presence.
• You’ll begin to see that being hated for His name is actually a sign you’re walking in the right direction.

What Is Temperance ?

Temperance (Greek: sophrosyne, meaning soundness of mind or moderation) is:
• Self-control and moderation, especially over bodily desires (like food, drink, lust, and anger).
• A fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23).
• Part of the ascetic life—the life of struggle (askesis) against the passions (pathē).

In the teaching the goal of life is theosis (union with God), and temperance is necessary because:

— St. Maximus the Confessor

Where Temperance Is Practiced in Life
1. Fasting
• Not just about food, but controlling all appetites.
• Helps train the body and soul for holiness.
2. Prayer and Watchfulness (Nepsis)
• Staying alert to one’s thoughts and inner movements.
• Practicing restraint in speech and action.
3. Confession & Spiritual Guidance
• Regular confession helps identify areas where temperance is lacking.
• A spiritual father helps guide a person toward balance.
4. Marriage and Chastity
• Even within marriage, moderation and respect are encouraged.
• Outside of marriage, chastity is expected.

Saints and Teachings on Temperance
• St. John Climacus (author of The Ladder of Divine Ascent):
He teaches that temperance is a step toward purity, necessary before acquiring dispassion (apatheia) and love (agape).
• St. Basil the Great:
Emphasized fasting and temperance as tools to conquer pride and lust.
• St. Isaac the Syrian:
Wrote extensively about internal vigilance and the importance of ruling the passions.

Temperance vs Legalism

It doesn’t see temperance as simply following strict rules. Instead, it’s about:

Healing the soul, not just behavior modification.

So temperance is a means to freedom, not restriction. By mastering desires, the person becomes truly free to love God and others.
