When debt collectors give you hell, we help you give it back.
We're the lawyers at the Florida law firm of Ricardo & Wasylik and we help you defend lawsuits from junk debt buyers trying to collect money or falsely report collections on your credit report. We also help you stop abusive, harassing debt collection in its tracks by suing debt collectors when they break the law, and help you recover damages when credit reporting agencies cost you money by refusing to fix or remove mistakes and unverifiable information shown on your credit report.
We offer a free 30-minute phone call with one of our lawyers, if you've got a possible case in Florida, to help decide whether it makes sense for you to "lawyer up" and fight back. To make your appointment, just call us at 352-567-3173 or follow this link on your phone: ricardolaw.com/contact/

If you've ever wondered why I say "Don't pay a DIME to Portfolio"... here the reason why.
Anne Munoz got sued for a debt she didn't owe, years after the fact. It turned out they sued the wrong Anne Munoz—but her court case is still pending.
And she's doing it by herself.
If this happens to you, don't go it alone. Wrongful debt collection lawsuits like this are against the law—and when debt collectors break the law, your lawyer is FREE.

OFFICE UPDATE:
We're still closed after the storm. Our office has no power, no internet, and no phones. (I'm writing this on a laptop tethered to my cell phone.)
But we're blessed because everyone here is safe and sound.
If you've tried to call or email, that's why you probably haven't heard back. But the messages will be there for us when we re-open, and we'll work through the backlog as quickly as we can.
We hope to re-open on Monday if we have power. If not, I'll get back on my laptop and send out another update.
Mike
PS - Even though the weather is clear, many roads are not. Stoplights are out, gas station lines are blocking traffic, and some roads may still be flooded. Avoid being on the roads if you possibly can. Stay safe.

A geyser in Yellowstone exploded under pressure yesterday.
Park visitors had to scramble for safety.
Fortunately, no one got hurt, and no, it wasn't Old Faithful, but another geyser in nearby Biscuit Basin.
Old Faithful is unusual for a geyser—predictable, regular, almost even-tempered.
Most geysers are different. They build up pressure for months, years, even decades or centuries, and erupt violently without warning.
It's like what happens when you let a debt collection problem sit and fester. Eventually, it builds up pressure until, at the worst possible time, it shatters your peace and tranquility.
If you don't know what's going on under the surface, you could be blindsided by a debt eruption.
That's why we recommend keeping an eye on your credit reports.
You now have the right to get all three major reports, for free, once per week, at annualcreditreport.com - and they're actual, reliable data you can use.
Take a look at what's going on under the surface - check your credit report before debt blows up in your face.

Silence is golden.
And when you talk to debt collectors, you're giving up gold.
So many people tell us stories of the conversations they have with debt collectors on the phone.
Never once have they gotten to a happy ending.
It's always frustration, confusion, anger, and hopelessness.
And that's not even counting the information the debt collector is gathering on the call.
You might think talking to debt collectors can help solve the problem, but it doesn't. It costs you two types of gold:
First, the gold that is your peace of mind. You'll never end a call with a debt collector, in a good mood.
Second, the gold it will cost you in time and money. Any information you give them, they WILL use against you to collect more money than you might otherwise pay. And every minute you spend on the phone is, at best, a minute wasted.
So remember: silence is golden.

The debt collectors want you to believe this lie:
"I can't afford a lawyer."
A person told us about a fraudulent account on their credit report that was causing them harm
But they were afraid to call us, because they believed—wrongly—that even calling us would somehow "rack up thousands of dollars" in legal bills and that hiring a lawyer would be "way too much money for me."
What a facepalm moment.
We're FREE.
If you've got a case, you don't pay anything up front, and if we win, the other side pays us.
The worst thing that can happen is nothing—and that's where you are now.
If you've been holding back from getting help because you somehow believed we'd be too expensive—now that excuse is gone.

If one link breaks, the whole chain fails.
That's why leaving out just one of these can wreck a debt collector's day.
There are five things EVERY debt collector must tell you when they start contacting you about a debt:
1. How much you owe
2. Who you owe it to
3. That they will ASSUME the debt to be "valid" unless you dispute it within 30 days
4. That you have the right to send a written demand for "verification" of the debt or a copy of the judgment against you.
5. That you have the right to send a written demand for the name and address of the original creditor.
They have to tell you all these things within five days of their first contact with you. If they don't, that's a violation, and it's leverage you can use for Total Victory against any debt collector.
