In tribute to John Cage, I collected over the years (and the mobile phones) sound samples all over the world, calibrated on 4’33 » format. They don’t claim to constitute an atlas; I think they form a collection of moments rather than places.
As any photopraphy, they’re partial, incomplete and limited by the frame they’ve been given. Nevertheless, I hope these samples are of sufficient quality to hold within all of the possibilities of the places they only offer a specific facet of, once crossed with a fecund imagination.
Beyond the testimony they convey, they don’t betray John Cage’s original intent: catalyse the receptiveness and make it available out of the piece’s arbitrary frame so as to maintain this particular disposition that allows to connect to the frequencies of the world’s radio.
