Thanks for all the love so far for my new song โ€œThe Choir!โ€ To me this is a โ€œweโ€ song and not a โ€œmeโ€ song so I want to use the release as an opportunity to shine a light on some artists that are being like โ€œThe Choirโ€ and using their voices and platform to call for change through both their art and through acts of advocacy. For the rest of the month Iโ€™ll be featuring different artists on my pages via portraits by @sheronica_mars, like the one above of me. Stay tuned! #inthechoir โ†’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3rDS...

When The Influences asked me to cover a song that has influenced me, โ€œPassionate Kissesโ€ was the first one to come to mind. This song has been recorded by two of my biggest heroes and influences and I donโ€™t remember ever not knowing this song.
I first heard โ€Passionate Kissesโ€ sung by Mary Chapin Carpenter whoโ€™s music was one of the soundtracks of my childhood in Virginia. When I was in high school and rekindling my love for MCC and getting really into songwriting, I realized that this was actually a cover of Lucinda Williams, an artist who I had heard of but never listened to...and then my whole world burst wide open and I was never the same.

One of the songs I chose to cover for my session with The Influences was โ€œMy Favorite Mistakeโ€ by Sheryl Crow. I got a karaoke machine for Christmas sometime during middle school. There were a bunch of current songs on the CDs that came with it & the one I remember always going back to and singing was this one, all by myself in the living room. I think my early love of this song that explains a lot about me and my writing, actually.
My dad bought โ€œTuesday Night Music Club,โ€ her first record, because Sheryl was from the same little town that his father was from in Missouri. We listened to it all the time when it came out. I remember checking it out from the library when I was away from home and staying with my grandparents for a month in the summer because I missed listening to it.
Iโ€™m actually playing a Sheryl Crow Signature Gibson in this video...When I first moved to Nashville I did not have a proper guitar for gigs. I saved up money from nannying and found a listing for a dreamy jumbo country western on Craigโ€™s List. I met the dude at Substop (RIP) and checked out the guitar, which ended up being the Sheryl Crow edition. He did not mention that in the listing and I was apprehensive about the nerdiness and quality signature edition guitars but this one sounded incredible and if I was to be a super fan of someone, it might as well be that badass. This guitar has been all over the world with me and I get compliments on it all the time. Good work, Sheryl!
If you made it this far in the post, maybe you love her like I do. Somebody put this woman in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame NOW!

โšก๏ธLive right now and just be yourself. It doesnโ€™t matter if itโ€™s good enough for someone else.โšก๏ธ
This verse is my favorite one. I wanted to make a slow and soft version of โ€œThe Middleโ€ because the lyrics are as comforting as any lullaby. I think itโ€™s a lullaby for all ages, really.
