Just watched the first episode of this new alleged adaptation of Treasure Island. I was less than three minutes in when I was like "WOW THIS IS TRASH." I barely made it through the first episode. This is getting a Grumpy Cat review.

I'd like to introduce Mostly Grownup, a new show started by Miguel Lopez, a guy I've been lucky to call my friend for most of my life. It's a new place to hear Miguel, myself, and other friends chat about life, the universe, and everything from the perspective of jaded Gen X moderates. The first episode is out and while this is mostly due to the work of Miguel, I'm happy to join him as often as I can. Our first episode was about the (possible?) return of The Plague, the riots in France, and two very controversial death penalty cases in the Unites States. Come for the moderate politics, stay for the two old friends having a chat.

Airstrip One Evening News now has its own channel!

youtube.com/@airstriponeeveningnews

I had intended the first episode to be just a one-off because after covering Animal Farm this year, I have been forced to notice how Orwellian things are getting here in Britain where I live. As soon as the first episode was published, there were a dozen news stories that could have gone into the second one. And it seems like some of you enjoyed my parody presentation of real world events.

However, these episodes are dark and political -- fine as a one-off but not really in keeping with the tone of my show, where I generally avoid politics and just want to talk about stories. So I've created a new channel just for Airstrip One Evening News. I have no idea how often I will post there. Basically if stories come up and I have enough to fill five minutes, I'll make an episode.

There's a post there explaining my point of view, but the short version is that I'll mock dystopian behavior wherever it comes from. I'm not going to try to support or oppose any one party, although it's natural that whatever parties are currently in power will get more attention as they are the ones actually running things.

I told my kid she couldn't play any more video games today so she drew a Ninja Turtle game on a cork trivet and played with it all evening.

I have some unfortunate news -- I won't be able to do livestreams for now. This is a drag for me because it's really nice to get to connect with you live and in the moment, and we had some fun events planned, but hopefully this won't be for long.

However, I have a good backlog of videos to edit and will still be able to produce pre-recorded shows. First up to say sorry for not being able to do a Sandlot movie night this week, I've got a fresh Fireside Fairy Tale, which will premiere tomorrow evening. Appropriately enough, it's also about people who are temporarily separated, though hopefully my hiatus from livestreams won't last as long as the separation between Niulang and Zhinü, the (literally) star-crossed lovers from ancient Chinese legend.

Here's the link and I hope you all enjoy the tale! https://youtu.be/qmw7jg2-4O4

Producer Chloë has just discovered the Percy Jackson series and she can't put down her copy of The Lightning Thief. About every five minutes or so she checks on the eclipse but it doesn't seem as interesting as finding out if Percy will survive his first day at Camp Half-Blood.
