That day two years ago when I chased a weak thundershower through northern Illinois for nearly two hours, essentially gave up and dropped behind and had to scramble for this one-minute glimpse of concurrent tornadoes near Campton Hills/Plato Center before losing them in the trees.

10 years ago OTD, a localized tornado outbreak produced several strong tornadoes in northern Illinois. I was on the storm that produced an EF2 which struck the Woodhaven Lakes campground near Sublette, followed by an EF1 in Mendota. Due to heavy rain-wrapping I did not have a good view of the tornadoes.

...then, ironically, after returning to my original target of Sioux City at around 9 PM (skip to timestamp 7:41), I saw what may have been an unwarned brief/weak tornado no one else saw. Very rapid upward motion and some rotation in the clouds which were very low to the ground.

11 years ago OTD...I didn't see Pilger. I had changed targets en route and came in late on the storm. The start of a pattern of blowing great opportunities to see spectacular tornado events that would continue until Keota, IA 2023 and Arnett, OK this May.
