The Brain Health Institute (BHI) at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, was established in 2014 to become an internationally recognized center for basic, translational, and clinical research into the biological bases of human brain function and dysfunction. Over the past decade, BHI has grown to include more than 300 faculty engaged in neuroscience and brain health related research at Rutgers. The research programs span multiple disciplines with faculty across 33 departments and seven schools of various campuses of Rutgers University and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. To strategically grow neuroscience and brain health research, BHI has identified four areas of outstanding strength within Rutgers. The four focus areas are: Neurodevelopment, Neurodegeneration and Injury, Cognitive and Sensory Neuroscience and Motivational and Affective Neuroscience. BHI has developed Centers of Excellence in each of these focus areas.
