The Movement History Initiative

Explore the rich history of the Civil Rights movement, grassroots organizing, and community activism on the Movement History Initiative YouTube channel.

The Movement History Initiative (MHI), headquartered at Duke University Libraries, is a collaboration between SNCC veterans, today’s organizers, and scholars across fields. In partnership with the SNCC Legacy Project, the John Hope Franklin Research Center, Duke’s Center for Documentary Studies, the John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute, BYP100, the New Georgia Project, and others, MHI preserves and shares the legacy of grassroots organizing in the Black freedom struggle—past and present.
