The Durability of Engineering Materials Lab at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, is primarily concerned with corrosion of metals in various porous media and environments, such as steel in concrete or in soil. We are interested in the durability of engineered materials and structures in civil engineering and infrastructures in the energy sector, where our research is focused on addressing real-world engineering challenges by fundamental science methods.
We perform research at the interface of corrosion science and engineering – to deliver the scientific basis for the development of sensors, predictive models, and corrosion protection methods. Through education, applied research projects, and committee work, we transfer new knowledge to engineering practice.
