This saying always makes me smile because it captures such a big truth in such an honest way.
We often wait to start something until we already feel ready. But the thing weâre avoiding is usually the very thing that helps us feel better.
Yoga meets stiff bodies with breath, slow pacing, support, and options. Instead of thinking, âIâm not flexible enough,â try considering that your stiffness is simply an invitation to begin!

A lot of people worry theyâre âtoo stiffâ or ânot flexible enoughâ to start yoga, and I hear it all the time. Itâs such a common belief that many folks decide not to begin at all.
But stiffness isnât a failure or a flaw. Itâs simply your nervous system doing its best to keep you safe, especially if you havenât moved in certain ways for a while. When you start gently and slowly, your body begins to trust those movements again, and things naturally start to soften.
What I always remind beginners is that yoga was never meant to be an entry test. You donât need to arrive bendy or balanced. You just need a willingness to explore and to meet your body exactly as it is today.

Camel pose can feel intense, especially if your low back is sensitive. I've started teaching the alignment in a way that spreads the extension throughout your entire spine instead of bending directly into the low back. If you want to explore camel in a steadier, more spacious way, come try this quick tutorial with me.

Itâs such a good feeling to come back to yoga after time away. This is one of my favorite short sequences for those first days back, it reminds me that gentle can still be powerful. Join me for a simple, standing class that helps you reconnect with breath, balance, and ease.

Itâs funny how often we forget to breathe. Especially when weâre trying to do yoga "right.â We focus so much on the poses that the breath slips into the background, OR we start to overthink it: âAm I inhaling at the right time?â âWas that supposed to be an exhale?â
But the breath isnât another instruction to follow... itâs the anchor that keeps you present. When you tune in, your breath tells you everything you need to know about how your body and mind are doing in that moment. Itâs the bridge between effort and ease.
So rather than worrying about breathing the ârightâ way, start by simply noticing that youâre breathing at all. (Awareness itself is the practice.)

Yoga isnât static. It breathes and bends and grows with us through every stage. Through energy, illness, recovery, and renewal.
When we expect our practice to look the same decade after decade, we set ourselves up for frustration. But when we let it evolve...when we release the idea of what our practice SHOULD look like and move toward acceptance and non-attachment (aparigraha)...it becomes a lifelong companion.
How has your yoga changed practice through the years?

Thereâs a quiet moment many of us face as we age or recover from injury, the realization that our bodies donât move quite like they used to. It can stir up frustration or even grief, especially when poses that once felt natural now feel out of reach.
But that doesnât mean your practice is slipping away. It means itâs growing up with you.
When you adapt your yoga, maybe sitting in a chair instead of kneeling, modifying a pose, or just shortening your sessions, youâre not âdoing less.â Youâre practicing with wisdom. Youâre listening to what your body truly needs now, not what it used to do.
We talked about this in the podcast this week, and itâs such an important reminder: yoga isnât about keeping things the same. Itâs about meeting yourself where you are, over and over again. The linkâs in the comments if youâd like to listen.

Sometimes Childâs Pose just isnât comfortable, and thatâs okay. I made this video for one of my students recovering from knee surgery but really, itâs for anyone whose knees or hips say ânot today.â These three gentle variations let you rest and reconnect without strain. Give them a try and see which one feels best in your body today.

Even when we tell ourselves to calm down and try to still our mind, our muscles and breath might still be sending signals of tension.
The body listens to actions, not instructions. Next time youâre trying to relax, notice what your shoulders, jaw, or breath are doing. Can you soften them slightly instead of forcing calm? Over time, this quiet physical language teaches your nervous system that itâs safe to let go.
