I explore how video games use (and misuse) real history, from ancient Greece to medieval Europe and early modern mysteries.

Expect deep-dive analysis of Fallout: New Vegas, Pentiment, Assassin’s Creed, and other titles that use real historical elements as part of their story and setting, plus occasional commentary on VR archaeology and immersive reconstructions from my independent project, ArchaeoXR.

If you love hidden details, historical accuracy, or smart storytelling in games… welcome.

Fallout Season 2 - Episode 1 Thoughts

I clenched my teeth and watched the whole first episode. "I don't like what I see" is an understatement. There are a lot of stupid things that happen in this episode, especially when it comes to Mr. House. The first 5 mins where they introduce him are just baffling on every level, to the point of being upsetting. I hope I'm wrong because Mr. House is my favourite character in all of Fallout and the way things are going it looks like the show is going to destroy him.

I'm not making a video yet because they're clearly setting up mystery boxes and red herrings. Also I don't really do "Episode Breakdown/Recap" style videos and I don't want to make predictions. In fact I want to get this fucking episode out of my head right now. If things get worse in later episodes I might lose my patience and make a rant video but I always prefer to be careful and a bit more analytical about things. At this stage I want to still keep my calm but based on what is already set up I cannot see how this can be salvaged.

More after I finish the season.

Fallout Season 2 drops in 6 days, and I'll be honest, I'm nervous. Season 1 had some serious lore issues, but this one's walking straight into New Vegas territory, and the trailers have me worried about how they'll handle my favourite character Mr. House, the Dam outcomes, and everything we spent endless hours building in the Mojave.

I'm planning to watch and probably make a video breaking down what they change and why it matters (for better or worse). But I'm curious, what are *you* most worried they'll mess up? The Strip? The factions? Something else? Let me know so I can keep an eye on it.

Now that the Oblivion remaster is out and everyone’s having a great time playing (and memeing) it, it would be amazing if Bethesda decided to do the same not only for Fallout 3 but also for Fallout: New Vegas.

But as we all know, Obsidian’s dev team had a much bigger vision for the Mojave , especially for the New Vegas Strip, and had to cut a lot of it down because of time constraints and the limitations of the engine at the time.

So if they ever want to revisit New Vegas, should they just do a remaster that keeps everything we already have?
Or should they attempt something bigger, a "remaster+" that tries to recreate the original scale? (A fully open Strip, restored Legion outposts, etc.)

I'm honestly a bit torn. As much as I would love to finally see the game as it was originally envisioned, I’m not sure I trust Bethesda to do it justice.
But what do you think?

🎰 I’m starting work on a new video about the real Las Vegas vs. Fallout: New Vegas—city layout, casinos, mob connections, the Rat Pack era…

Any weird historical details or comparisons you think I should include?

I’m also debating whether to do more videos on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Ubisoft’s historical storytelling has a lot to unpack… but maybe people are burned out after AC Shadows?
