Born in Paisley, Scotland to a Polish soldier and a Scottish dance band singer, Louise Rutkowski [Root-kof-skee] grew up in Glasgow.
By her teens, along with sister Deirdre, she was part of the vibrant ‘80s music scene within Glasgow. The sisters formed Sunset Gun, signing to CBS Records after a bidding war.
Thereafter, the Rutkowski sisters’ harmony vocals became a core part of the internationally renowned 4AD Records’ This Mortal Coil albums, Filigree and Shadow and Blood.
Craig Armstrong OBE, the BAFTA award-winning film score composer, chose Louise as the featured vocalist on his 90s Interscope Records project, The Kindness of Strangers; which included mixes by Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart and Nellee Hooper (Bjork, Soul II Soul).
Most recently, Louise collaborated with Irvin Duguid, and in 2014, her first solo album, Diary of a Lost Girl, was nominated for a SAY (Scottish Album of the Year) Award, with a follow-up, Home, released in 2020.
