The problem of avoidable blindness rapidly escalating remained a major cause of concern in the Indian healthcare scenario. Especially in villages and small towns like Kalawad, eye treatment was difficult to get and people either had to go to big cities for expensive treatment or live a life of blindness.
Recognizing the hardships that these patients have to face to access the hospital, Dr. Anurath Savalia opened a hospital closer to their homes, at kalawad. At that time this was the only place for eye treatment.
