Here’s what the updated BMW XM Label – still generating a whopping 550 kW but now boasting a faster AC charging rate and additional options – costs in South Africa…

XM Label is now the sole XM derivative
Upgraded but again priced at R3 650 000
PHEV powertrain still offers hefty 550 kW
Back in June 2025, BMW announced some changes to its XM line-up, saying the standard 480 kW version would fall away in South Africa to leave the 550 kW BMW XM Label as the sole derivative. Furthermore, this variant’s AC charging rate would be increased, while additional options would become available.

Now the updated XM Label has been added to BMW South Africa’s online configurator. Interestingly, pricing is unchanged from before, which means the Munich-based automaker’s most powerful road-legal derivative still starts at R3 650 000 (for the record, that’s R200 000 more than the standard variant, which is no longer listed on the local configurator).

BMW XM Label
So, what exactly has changed? Well, the updated XM Label’s maximum AC charging rate has been increased from 7.4- to 11 kW. Furthermore, BMW now offers “additional options” for customising the plug-in hybrid SUV’s exterior and interior.

As a reminder, the XM Label generates 550 kW and 1 000 Nm courtesy of a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) system built around a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine. This allows the SUV to complete the obligatory 0-100 kph sprint in a claimed 3.8 seconds. In some markets, top speed is electronically limited to 250 kph, but since the M Driver’s Package is standard locally, this rises to 290 kph in SA.

Isuzu Motors South Africa will produce just 150 units of the new D-Max X-Rider Black, each powered by the brand’s 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine. Here’s what they cost…

X-Rider Black badge returns to D-Max line-up
Just 150 units will be produced in Struandale
3 derivatives available, priced from R664 100
Back in March 2024, the X-Rider badge officially returned to the Isuzu D-Max range in South Africa. Now, the Japanese brand has rolled out a limited-edition version called the D-Max X-Rider Black.

Of course, this name will be a familiar one to many local bakkie fans, with Isuzu having launched an X-Rider Black based on the previous-generation D-Max back in 2019. The 2025 iteration will again be built at the automaker’s Struandale factory in the Eastern Cape, though just 150 units will be produced (and spread across Mzansi and “other African markets”).

Isuzu D-Max X-Rider Black
Every example will be numbered and come complete with a special plaque fitted to the left-side inner fender. Mimicking the X-Rider line-up on which it’s based, just 3 double-cab derivatives will be on offer. There is thus a 6-speed manual variant and a 6-speed automatic derivative, each in 4×2 guise, as well as a 4×4 automatic version. In each case, power comes from the standard 1.9-litre, 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine delivering 110 kW and 350 Nm.

The widebody Toyota Hilux GR Sport III is due to launch in South Africa soon – and we’ve managed to unearth pricing! Here’s how much you’ll pay for what Toyota bills as the “ultimate off-roader”…

In January of this year, Toyota South Africa Motors confirmed plans to launch the new widebody Toyota Hilux GR Sport III at some point in March 2024 (though the media launch is scheduled for the 2nd week of April). Now, ahead of this local market introduction, can reveal pricing for what the Japanese firm bills as the “ultimate off-roader”.

According to our information, the widebody Hilux GR Sport III – which was displayed at Toyota’s State of the Motor Industry (SOMI) 2024 event in January – will be priced from R999 000, slipping in just under the 7-figure mark. For the record, that represents a R51 400 premium over the outgoing version, which is currently pegged at R947 600.

But before we delve into that, let’s briefly touch on the powertrain. In short, the SA-spec version will retain the uprated 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine – not to mention 6-speed automatic transmission, driving all 4 wheels – of its predecessor, which means peak outputs will again come in at 165 kW and 550 Nm.

In October 2024, Volkswagen Group Africa – which last offered a non-performance version of the Golf back in the 7th generation – unexpectedly announced plans to launch the Golf 8.5 1.4 TSI in South Africa. Now, well ahead of this model’s scheduled arrival early in the 2nd quarter of 2025, pricing has been revealed.

The German firm made the announcement at its Volkswagen Indaba 2025 event at the Kariega plant in the Eastern Cape, where it confirmed the facelifted Golf would be available in a quartet of grades: Life, Life+, R-Line and R-Line+.

This is the R-Line specification (UK model pictured).
All 4 derivatives will be powered by the Wolfsburg-based automaker’s familiar turbocharged 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, which will send 110 kW and 250 Nm to the front axle via an 8-speed automatic transmission. So, no manual gearbox will be available locally.

So, how much will it cost? Well, VW Group Africa says the Golf 1.4 TSI 110 kW Life will be priced from R580 900, with the Life+ (featuring a little more standard kit) coming in from R604 500. Meanwhile, the Golf 1.4 TSI 110 kW R-Line will start at R660 000, while upgrading to R-Line+ will push the price to R688 100.
