Tahlia Nerds Out

Reading and knitting simultaneously is my superpower...
I don't have enough time on my knitting podcast with my Mom (Pen, Hook, And Needles Podcast) to discuss all the books I want to discuss, and so created this channel. I don't post here on any sort of schedule due to chronic illnesses, but I try to post at least once a month. I read a lot of different kinds of books, but I particularly enjoy Golden Era Mystery books, classic literature, and history books (favoring English History from medieval time through the Victorian Era). I may also occasionally post comic book reviews, and will share birdcam videos.

Some strong considerations for my reads for next year’s Manifest Destiny, a Readathon being started by ‪@BookZealots‬:
1) “A Quiet Will: the Life of Clara Barton”, written by her relative, William E. Barton
2) “An American Doctor’s Odyssey”, autobiography/memoir written by Victor Heiser, MD, who survived the Johnstown Flood as a teenager
3)”The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris”, written by David McCullough (fits just about perfectly into the 1837-1901 time frame)

That’s it to start; I’ll no doubt add more as I go on.

Some Christmas-y reading… do you think I can justify “Merry Murdle” for #christiesmissingreadathon as being inspired by Agatha Christie because two of the suspects are bestselling authors named “Dame Obsidian” and “Crime Queen Caramel”?

‪@BernasBookishAdventures‬ ‪@naomisbookshelf‬

I have just finished logic puzzle 7, so I am now caught up to have a puzzle a day until Christmas from here onwards.

Note: I did not do the artwork on the cards; those are stamps. I merely contributed by coloring them using watercolor pencils.

Thanks, ‪@GhostReadersintheSky‬ for hosting this! I really enjoyed the conversation with you, ‪@GenreBooks23‬ , ‪@RaynorReadsStuff‬ , and ‪@marlicias_meanderings‬ about Ivanhoe. This has been a great group with which to read and discuss… thanks for arranging all this!

I think it has been about a month since I last used my intro music, which I had axed, thinking it might be an annoyance. But apparently, it is missed by some of y’all. So, poll time:

FATHER KNOX’S “DECALOGUE”
1) The criminal must be someone mentioned in the early part of the story, but must not be anyone whose thoughts the reader has been allowed to follow
2) All supernatural or preternatural agencies are ruled out as a matter of course
3) Not more than one secret room or passage is allowable
4) No hithero undiscovered poisons should be used, nor any appliance which need a long scientific explanation at the end
5) No Chinaman must figure in the story (Knox’s way of poking fun at thriller writers whose reliance on sinister Oriental villains had already became a cliché)
6) No accident must ever help the detective, nor must he ever have unaccountable intuition which proves to be right
7) The detective must not himself commit the crime
8) The detective must not light on any clues that are not immediately produced for the inspection of the reader
9) The stupid friend, the Watson, must not conceal any thoughts which pass through his mind
10) Twin brothers, and doubles generally, must not appear unless we have duly been prepared for them
