Hey guys, I'm just starting to plan out the next couple of legs of the Movie Meet Up Tour. What major cities (I'm already planning on Nashville and Atlanta) that I haven't been to yet, should I include?
Want to see Odyssey in 70mm IMAX one more time. I knew trying to see it this weekend was probably going to be be difficult, so I looked for this coming Monday night at 10pm. This is what I got hit with.
The ugliness of people is just depressing. Watching people online so desperately WANTING a movie to be bad and fail all because the director had the audacity to cast an Academy Award winning, one of the greatest actresses on the planet, in a fictitious mythological role. Yes, in myth the character who HATCHED OUT OF AN EGG is traditionally white. Nolan went with a black actress.
Ok, who cares right? As long as the story is great, the acting is world class and the movie delivers. Well…. not to these people. To these “people”, the very fact that the actress is black is all they need to hate the movie already. The color of her skin is enough for them to accuse critics who love it as “paid off”. Be very clear about this… they hate it, because an actress is black. They don’t know if the movie is good. They don’t know if her performance is exceptional. All they know is that she’s black, and that’s all they need to hate it, and anyone who likes it.
I haven’t seen The Odyssey yet. Maybe I’ll love it too, maybe I’ll hate it. But I know this… the film being great or being poor with have NOTHING to do with the color of Helen of Troy’s skin.These people will do their best semantic gymnastics, but at the end of the day, they hate it because Helen is black. And that makes me very sad.
