Many news agencies across the U.S are reporting increased numbers of families seeking food assistance for their pets. One such shelter is Animal friends in Pittsburgh, PA. Their pet food pantry has seen three times the normal amount of people asking for pet food resources, they have also distributed over 17,000 pounds of pet food to over 3,000 families in the past month - a record number.

Animal Friends shared some tips for how you can help them, or your own local shelter.
Typically shelters need:
Unopened dog, cat, & rabbit food
Canned pet food
Unopened treats
Cat litter
Or Monetary donations

Most animal shelters across the U.S. have food pantry services for members of the community and they often rely on donations to keep these pantry’s going.

An Alaskan non-profit called Bethel Friends of Canines which typically helps reheome animals, has helped charter a plane to rescue 50-100 dogs from the town of Kipnuk in the midst of evacuations.

The rescued dogs traveled about 90 miles by plane to the nearest shelter in Bethel.
The rescue organization has stated the rescue cost them $3000 to execute and that they aren’t sure how many times they are going to have to do similar operations in the coming days or weeks.
They have managed to raise over $22,000 dollars since last Wednesday for the rescue efforts.

The Jane Goodall institute has just confirmed via a social media statement that Jane Goodall passed away today, October 1st, at 91 years old.
She was in California on the U.S leg of her speaking tour when she passed.

Dr. Goodall’s discoveries revolutionized science and led groundbreaking chimpanzee research. She was also a fierce advocate for the protection and restoration of animals and their environments.

She will be greatly missed. ❤️

A man and his emotional support alligator have been banned from a Walmart in western Pennsylvania after they were seen strolling the store with the alligator sitting in a cart wearing a dress.

60-year-old Wesley Silva, claims he has never had a problem taking his five-foot, 32-pound alligator,Jinseioshi, into the West Brownsville Walmart before. He says they have frequented that particular Walmart for about three years prior to this ban.

A spokesperson for Walmart told NBC news the following: The safety of our customers and associates is our highest priority,” Walmart said. “We welcome service animals in our stores, but it is unacceptable to expose members of the public to potential danger.”

Fourteen staff members, along with nearly 75 cats and dogs, at Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter in Billings, Montana had to seek medical care after their building filled with smoke after the FBI used the facility incinerator to burn two pounds of seized methamphetamine.
Local authorities said that animal control officers typically use the incinerator to dispose of euthanized animals, but that it can also be used by law enforcement for seized narcotics. The animals have been relocated, and any animal that experienced smoke exposure are being carefully watched under supervision.

The Assistant City Administrator, stated that the cause of the incident stems from smoke being pushed in the wrong direction due to negative pressure The executive director of the shelter, Triniti Halverson, has firmly stated that she was unaware a drug burn was taking place on site. FBI spokesperson, Sandra Barker, told CBS News that the agency routinely uses outside facilities for controlled drug evidence burns.

A restoration tram has also been decontaminating the building but the process is expected to take at least two weeks to a month to complete.The Director of the shelter is asking the public for donations to source supplies, like dog and cat food, blankets, and bottles, during this time.
