For those of us in the United States (except Arizona and Hawaii), it’s that time of the year again to adjust the clocks. Daylight Saving Time starts tomorrow (Sunday the 9th)!

Exploring Abandoned Mines and Unusual Places
Hey, everybody! New 4K video arrives tomorrow (Saturday the 8th) at 7:15 AM Pacific Time! It’s titled “Deep and Dangerous: Exploring a Massive, Multilevel Abandoned Mine From the Bottom.” The four pictures in this post show some of the things we saw while exploring this incredible mine. Please click the images to see the entire shot.
Once again I met up with Jeff from OTG Exploring (@otgexploring ). We made our way underground through two adjacent mines we explored a month earlier which led to the lowest level of a third massive, former gold mine where we had to climb up ladders to access all the other levels that were above us. We literally explored this third mine upward from its bottom. It was quite the adventure! Along the way we explored stopes that had their own systems of tunnels. We also found dangerous, fractured areas in this mine as well as some pretty substantial collapses. My oxygen meter did beep once to indicate potential low oxygen levels, but the readout was still in the safe range.
I think you’ll enjoy tomorrow’s video! As always, your ongoing support and interest are appreciated. Thank you! 👍
*NOTE: Last month’s video featured the two connected abandoned mines we explored which led us to the bottom of the massive mine that you’ll see in tomorrow’s video. That older video is titled “Unbelievable! We Found Underground Connections to Three Abandoned Mines!” If you missed watching it, get caught up now by using this link:

A small meteorite was caught on a Ring doorbell camera smashing into a front walkway at a house in Canada. It is estimated that the meteorite was traveling at about 125 miles per hour (200 kilometers per hour). Check out the video!

Mining by candlelight! Miners in a South African mine load an ore cart that’s parked under an ore chute. Notice the two candles stuck into the wall near the chute. And it looks like both miners on the right and left are holding lit candles in their right hands. No burro or donkey is present, so a miner probably pushed the loaded ore cart along the tracks. Date this priceless photograph was taken? Probably sometime around 1900.

Quick quiz! Here’s an old-time photograph of some miners underground in Johannesburg, South Africa. What are the two angled support timbers usually called that you see in the photograph?
A) Stills
B) Stulls
C) Stalls
D) Stells
I was trying to figure out what the round, white thing was on the ground next to the kneeling miner on the right-hand side of the photograph. Any guesses? Leave a comment. I’m not sure when this photograph was taken, but I’d guess sometime between 1890 and 1910.
By the way, the answer to the quiz question is choice B. They are stulls. I’m not sure if that term was used in South African mines, though.

Exploring Abandoned Mines and Unusual Places
New year, new video! My latest 4K video titled “Unbelievable! We Found Underground Connections to Three Abandoned Mines!” goes live tomorrow (Saturday the 4th) at 7:15 AM Pacific Time. I met up with Jeff from OTG Exploring (@otgexploring) and headed to the remote Queen Mine. After entering the abandoned mine via its crumbling inclined shaft, we realized that we were able to access two neighboring mines by traversing a confusing network of underground passageways, rickety ladders, and inclined shafts. It was quite the adventure! Some of the stopes we found in these mines were pretty large, too. These pictures show just a few of the many highlights that will be featured in tomorrow’s video. I think you’ll enjoy it. As always, thank you for your support! Happy new year!

Here are a few pictures showing underground footage from the Queen Mine that I explored yesterday with Jeff from OTG Exploring (@otgexploring). Click the images to see the entire shot. Much to our surprise, we discovered that the Queen Mine connects underground to two other nearby abandoned mines! We spent seven hours underground in this one making our way through each mine. There’s still a lot more to explore and see in this one, so I’m sure we’ll return. Videos of the Queen Mine and more are coming soon!
