🏔️ EVEREST BASE CAMP: Everything You Need To Know (Before You Go!) 🇳🇵
Thinking about trekking to Everest Base Camp (EBC)? Here’s the real-world info people wish they knew first 👇
✅ How hard is it?
Moderate to tough — mostly because of altitude, not “technical hiking.” Long walking days + cold + thin air.
⏳ How long is the trek?
Most trips are 12–14 days from Kathmandu (including acclimatisation).
Shorter trips exist, but cutting days increases altitude risk.
📍 Where does it start?
Most trekkers fly Kathmandu → Lukla (the famous runway). Then it’s village-to-village trekking.
🗓️ Best time to go
🌸 Spring (Mar–May): clear views + busy season
🍂 Autumn (Sep–Nov): best overall weather + clearest skies
❄️ Winter is possible but cold; monsoon is wet/cloudy.
🧠 The biggest danger: altitude
Altitude sickness can happen to anyone.
Rule: go slow, acclimatise, hydrate, listen to your body.
Your “fitness” doesn’t make you immune.
🏡 Where do you sleep?
Teahouses (simple lodges): basic rooms, shared bathrooms, cold nights.
Hot showers sometimes available (often extra).
🍽️ Food situation
Plenty of options: dal bhat, noodles, soups, eggs, porridge.
It gets more expensive the higher you go.
🚿 Showers + charging + Wi-Fi
Available in many places but often paid.
Bring a power bank and expect Wi-Fi to be slow.
💧 Water & staying safe
You can buy bottled water, but it’s pricey up high.
Most people use purification tablets/filters to refill.
🎒 Gear you actually NEED
✅ Layering system (base/mid/puffy/shell)
✅ Good hiking boots + warm socks
✅ Sleeping bag (nights can be freezing)
✅ Sun protection (UV is intense!)
✅ Power bank + headlamp
✅ Trekking poles (knees will thank you)
💛 Pro tip: Train for endurance, not speed
Stairs, incline walking, long slow hikes with a backpack = perfect prep.
