A new “feature” video, easily overlooked in the news briefs, looks at times when Ma Mopar took an old name and applied to a new car—and when that was a really bad idea! I think we all come up with “Aspen” on that list, but I’ll bet I have one you didn’t think of, and maybe you have one I didn’t! Take a look...

Hi, all! I accidentally posted the low-res draft version of Nihar's Chrysler video earlier today, then pulled it - if you got a notice but couldn't see the video, that's why. It's up now! A full Chrysler lineup, inside and out, with prices, to match Nihar's prior Dodge lineup video.

Yes, there are two more little cat videos out after a week with very few new vids. The reason is that I have been really, really sick and the queue is empty! So two little cat vids... but if you missed it, and it looks like a lot of people did!, I did this just before I got sick...

First, I'd like to invite you to join this channel as a paying member at $5/month. Your support will help me keep going at a fast pace, and if enough people join in, there are some items like better video editing software and a gimbal that I can start using to make the videos better. You get some benefits, such as immediately seeing new videos (which are normally scheduled one-per-weekday), call-outs, priority replies, and such. Just look for the join button on the channel home page - youtube.com/@motalesdave

Not everyone's seen the latest CTC Creation video, which has been getting a lot of attention among former Chrysler employees; but I'm attaching instead the video of CudaPete installing an alternator in Tom's Pacifica, complete with the wrong turns, ill-fitting replacement parts, and dropped sockets we all experience, and how they resolved the problems.

I hope you will excuse, or like, the cat videos! More to the point you may be wondering about the revised Mopar Axles video. Well, I can't change what's been posted, I can only post afresh! So that is what I’ve done. I went through the axle history piece and subbed in different images and diagrams so it makes a bit more sense when you view it. I‘ve heard from two people that the old axle design was terrible for working on brakes, so that’s in there; and I cut some unnecessary verbiage. It’s now well under five minutes long and I hope if you haven’t seen it before, you’ll like it now! There are some human stories in this video on axles.

Today Ed Dreistadt’s partner in Mocrime, Gary Platz, talked about making “slant six clocks,” but that was just part of a much longer chat — we have at least two more segments coming. One will be Gary talking about his book, My Slant on Things, (see dave.zatz.us/books.php for details), another will be general chatting about scrapyards and the fix-it-yourself ethic, and the other - not sure yet!

If you haven't watched the Tailfins video, you may want to; Ed is a fun and widely traveled person, even if the video is not great (I didn't feel a 3,000 mile trip justified for a 17 minute video!). He set up the Tailfins.com site, now at tailfins.motales.com, back in the mid 1990s through 1999. We have a lot in common! I was setting up Allpar from around 1994 to 2017. Anyway, we have his friend Gary Platz coming up soon with some shorter videos... but for now here's Ed if you haven't watched it already. (We do get more images towards the end, too.)

Tomorrow we continue talking about axles a bit, tapping Al Bosley for some perspective on axle design; but I took some time out to address the many comments which noted my mistakes (please DO point out my mistakes in the comments!) and critiqued my classic car driving. I should probably mention that I did have battered old 100,000+ 1970s cars as daily drivers back in my youth—as so many did back then! But your points were taken. Anyway, here's my short response. Yesterday's new video was a guest spot from Pete Doll, talking about 1960s-70s axles.

We have a fine guest appearance in draft form right now, and I am working on talking with a few other people about Mopar matters. If all goes well, tomorrow we’ll have an interesting and education video on Mopar axles which were used with everything from the slant six on up into the V8s. I'll be looking for your feedback on that format.

In the meantime, here’s an “unboxing” video of three Mopar press kits. I’ll be going further back for more... but press kits in the “classic” days were generally typewritten and quite plain!
