This an official YT channel for Sprechfenster Blog, an online window into the world of Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) as seen by Maciej Talaga, an archaeologist and fencer researching late-medieval martial culture. The title - Sprechfenster - is borrowed from a medieval German fencing technique known under the same name, literally translating as "Speaking Window". This technique involved crossing swords with the opponent in order to gauge his intentions and strength without exposing oneself to a strike. Thus, it was a perfect position for "a conversation of blades" in which both combatants engaged in a game of give & take, constantly exchanging information and probing each other. That is why I chose it a namesake for this blog - a place where I can meet the rest of the swordfighting world and vice versa.
