REAL WARRI PIKIN CANCELS WARRI SHOW OVER ‘UNFORTUNATE DIVISIONS’

Popular Nigerian comedian Anita Asuoha, widely known as Real Warri Pikin, has cancelled her forthcoming show in Warri, Delta State, citing what she described as “unfortunate divisions” within society.

The comedian announced the decision in a statement shared on Instagram, expressing disappointment that division continues to exist where, according to her, there should be unity.

Real Warri Pikin said the show, which was scheduled to hold in Warri in the coming weeks, would no longer take place due to circumstances arising from the divisions.

She, however, stressed that the development would not limit her brand or her work, insisting that her identity extends beyond her place of birth, local government or family background.

According to the comedian, she represents Delta State, Nigeria and Africa, as well as women across different tribes and backgrounds.

She reaffirmed her commitment to using her platform and talents positively, while thanking supporters who reached out to her with encouragement and counsel following the development.

Real Warri Pikin also said she held no bitterness towards those whose actions may have contributed to the situation, calling instead for greater unity and cooperation.

She concluded by declaring that although the Warri show had been cancelled, her broader vision remained unchanged.

FIVE YEARS OF BAD ROADS: UDU RESIDENTS CRY OUT TO DELTA GOVERNMENT

Residents and business owners in Kotokoto Layout, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, have raised an urgent appeal to the Delta State Government over years of deteriorating roads, blocked drainage channels and unstable electricity supply.

The residents said the infrastructure crisis is crippling businesses, damaging vehicles, disrupting transportation and making daily movement increasingly difficult, especially during the rainy season.

Their concerns were documented during a street opinion survey conducted by participants in the GbaramatuVoice Internship Media Programme, who asked residents to identify the most urgent challenge requiring government intervention.

Most respondents pointed to the deplorable state of the roads, with some alleging that the problem has persisted for over five years without meaningful intervention.

A hairstylist, Madam Joy, said overflowing drainage channels regularly produce an offensive smell that drives customers away from her shop. She alleged that the situation becomes worse during rainfall when waste from soakaways enters the drainage system.

Mrs Adebayo, a businesswoman, said customers increasingly avoid the area because of the roads, affecting sales and the survival of businesses. She also lamented the unstable electricity supply and the absence of transformers in some streets.

Another resident, Mrs Ovuakporaye Joseph, said business owners, private motorists and commercial tricycle operators have continued to suffer because of the neglected roads. She added that some parts of the community had been without electricity for about three months.

Students are also affected. Bridget, a resident, said the muddy roads make it difficult for students to move around during the rainy season, forcing some to walk through the area without proper footwear.

Commercial tricycle operators described the road as nearly impassable on some days, saying: “Today is even good. Sometimes, we cannot use our keke to pass.”

The residents are now calling on the Delta State Government, Udu Local Government Council and other relevant agencies to urgently inspect the area, rehabilitate the roads, clear the drainage channels and restore stable electricity supply.

They warned that continued government inaction would further damage businesses, worsen flooding and deepen the hardship faced by residents of Kotokoto Layout.

The people of Kotokoto are asking a simple question: how much longer must they wait for basic infrastructure?

EDO IJAWS ARE INDIGENOUS, NOT SETTLERS - IYC PRESIDENT ORDERS 30-DAY FACT-FINDING MISSION

The newly inaugurated President of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, Dr. Doubra Collins Okotete, has declared that the Ijaw people of Edo State are aboriginal inhabitants and indigenous owners of their ancestral lands, insisting that they must never be regarded as settlers.

Okotete made the declaration in his inaugural address, a copy of which was obtained by GbaramatuVoice. He also ordered a fact-finding mission to Edo State and placed all organs, affiliates and structures of the Council on alert to defend the political, economic, social and traditional rights of Ijaw communities in the state.

“We reaffirm unequivocally that the Ijaws of Edo State are not settlers. They are aboriginal inhabitants and indigenous owners of their ancestral lands.

“This administration stands firmly with the concerns raised by our foremost leader, HRM King Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, regarding the rights and welfare of the Ijaw people of Gelegele and other Ijaw communities in Edo State.

“Our traditional rulers shall no longer be denied their constitutional, customary and cultural rights.

“To this end, I hereby direct that a fact-finding delegation, jointly chaired by the National Mobilisation Officer and the National Secretary and comprising relevant zonal officers and clan leadership, undertake an assessment mission to Edo State.

“The committee shall submit its report within thirty (30) days.

“Furthermore, all organs, affiliates and structures of the IYC Worldwide are hereby placed on alert and directed to mobilise support towards securing greater political, economic and social inclusion for our people in Edo State and beyond,” Okotete said.

The directive signals the first major intervention of the new IYC administration on the status, recognition and welfare of Ijaw communities in Edo State.

BREAKING: Court Nullifies NDC Registration

A Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, has set aside its earlier judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.

Justice Isah Dashen ruled that the earlier judgment was constitutionally defective because all necessary parties were not heard before the decision was reached.

The court upheld the application of the Peace Movement Party (PMP), holding that it was a necessary party in the suit. It further ordered that the status quo be restored pending the determination of the substantive case.

The judge also held that material facts were suppressed in obtaining the December 10, 2025 judgment and consequently directed that the substantive suit commence afresh with INEC, the Peace Movement Party and the Nigeria Democratic Congress participating as parties.

The ruling effectively returns the dispute over the registration of the NDC to the Federal High Court for a fresh hearing.

DOKUBO TO OKPEBHOLO: GIVE EDO IJAWS THEIR DUE

"We have historical documents dating back to 16th something, where it clearly states that Gelegele is an Ijaw settlement."

His Royal Majesty, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, Amayanabo of Torusarama-Piri, Elem Kalabari, has called on Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to give urgent attention to the condition of Ijaw communities in the state, declaring that the struggle for the rights, recognition and development of Ijaw people in Edo should become a major priority.

Speaking during the 2026 Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide National Electoral Committee Manifesto Presentation and Debate in Degema, Rivers State, Dokubo said the IYC was established as a platform for advocacy and the protection of Ijaw interests.

GbaramatuVoice reports that the respected Ijaw leader urged the organisation to remain committed to its founding ideals and continue championing issues affecting Ijaw communities across the country.

According to him, "Our next battleground is Edo State. This organization was not formed for pleasure, was not formed for this sort of thing. We did not form this organization for these fine-fine things."

Reflecting on the early struggles of Ijaw activism, Dokubo recalled the sacrifices made by pioneers of the movement in pursuit of justice, recognition and development for Ijaw communities.

"We were going to Arogbo for three days and eating raw corn, cassava, everything at Gbelebu. We ate everything, ripe and unripe, cooked and uncooked. All the water in Gbelebu, in the well, everything, we drank all," he said.

Dokubo appealed to Governor Monday Okpebholo and the Edo State Government to address concerns relating to the rights, recognition and welfare of Ijaw communities in the state, insisting that they deserve the same opportunities and consideration enjoyed by their counterparts in neighbouring states.

"We cannot continue to allow the Ijaws to continue in the condition they are, because government drew a line and said this is Delta, this is Ondo, this is Edo. The people of Ondo State have their right. The people of Delta have their right, but the people of Edo State cannot have their right," he stated.

Dokubo also questioned arguments surrounding the status of some Ijaw communities, particularly in relation to claims of settlement and indigeneity.

"Ofunama is a settlers. Opposite Ofunama is Delta State, they are not settlers. How can you get this sort of argument?" he queried.

The traditional ruler further referenced historical records which he said support the Ijaw origin of certain communities in the area.

"We have historical documents dating back to 16th something, where it clearly states that Gelegele is an Ijaw settlement," he said.

Dokubo maintained that claims linking some Ijaw communities to Benin ancestry were inaccurate.

"All those Ijaw people who are claiming historical parasitism that they are from Benin, they are liars. There is no Kalabari man that is from Benin. I am saying it as the Amayanabo of the Source," he declared.

His remarks have added to ongoing conversations about the history, identity and rights of Ijaw communities in Edo State, while drawing attention to calls for greater government engagement and development in the affected communities.

BREAKING: INEC Restores Six State Constituencies in Delta Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the restoration of six State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta State ahead of the 2027 General Election, following court judgments directing the reinstatement of previously suppressed constituencies.
