Hair metal, also known as hard rock, heavy metal, glam metal or pop metal, is a style of music that originated in the early 1980s and is characterized by the large, teased hairstyles and heavy makeup worn by its musicians. The genre was influenced by hard rock from the late 1970s and early 1980s, as well as hard rock bands like Aerosmith and Slade. Some of the bands that pioneered hair metal include: Slade (1966), Mott the Hoople (1966), T.Rex (1967) David Bowie, Alice Cooper, The Sweet (1968), Black Sabbath, Elton John & Queen (1970) Aerosmith, Montrose & KISS (1973/74) AC/DC & Rainbow (1975)
