To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Foyle Down Syndrome Trust, I am taking on a 107-mile self-supported hike along the Cleveland Way from Helmsley to Filey. This challenge is deeply personal to me, as my brother has Down’s syndrome and has benefited throughout his life from the incredible support provided by the Trust.
For three decades, the Foyle Down Syndrome Trust has helped children, young people, and adults with Down’s syndrome and their families through education, therapies, health and wellbeing programmes, and lifelong support.
Over 4–5 days, I will carry everything I need on my back, camp along the route, and walk roughly a marathon a day across the North York Moors and Yorkshire coast. My goal is to raise awareness of the Trust’s work and generate support for an organisation that has had a profound impact on my family and countless others across Londonderry.
