Bhakti Mathur is a former banker destined to be a storyteller.
Whether it's tales of Hindu gods and festivals or the mortals who overcame cancer and chronic pain, Bhakti finds a way to tell ancient and modern stories alike, with ease, joy, and wonderment. As the author of two best-selling series of books for children on Indian mythology and history - "Amma Tell Me" and "Amma Take Me" she keeps the tradition alive, not only for her own family but for everyone else's as well.
Bhakti regularly hosts storytelling sessions, reading, and writing workshops at schools. She also freelances at the South China Morning Post as a culture and health & fitness feature writer. She is a life coach, an avid hiker, and a runner. She ran the New York Marathon in 2017 and is currently enrolled in an Iyengar yoga teacher training program.
On weekends, she can be found curled up with a book and a cup of chai with her dogs, Rafa (as in Nadal) and Sam (as in Samwise Gamgee), lazing by her side.
