Occult Audio makes horror VST plugins and cinematic sample libraries for composers scoring tension, dread, and unease.
Instruments built for film, television, and games. We build for the uncomfortable places music has to go — textures that feel inhabited, sounds that sit just slightly wrong. Every instrument we make is built around one idea: the most powerful sounds are the ones that retain just enough reality to feel familiar, and just enough wrongness to feel threatening.
Occult Audio was founded by composer James Cox, based in East Sussex. The instruments grew out of frustration with the tools available for dark, cinematic sound design — either too clean, too expensive, or too locked inside ecosystems that got in the way. The first libraries were built for his own sessions. They became releases because other composers kept asking what was being used on them.
