A family revitalizes a traditional Japanese house

We are gradually restoring a 150-year-old traditional Japanese house as a family project. The main house is said to be over 150 years old, while the detached smaller building, known as an "隠居[ inkyo ]" is slightly newer, around 90 to 100 years old.

Much of the main house remains as it was originally built, so we are excited to undertake what is known as a "restoration" project. The "隠居[ inkyo ]" has undergone several modern renovations in recent years, so we plan to preserve what we can and undertake a "renovation" to make the most of it.
