Using up extra food from the pantry before moving, is helping our grocery costs and we are not wasting all the hard work we put into preserving and storing it all. Today we made apple cobbler from the apples we canned last year.

Something is stealing eggs from our broody Black Copper Marans hen just three days before they are due to hatch.

For two days now I've been finding eggs by her nest and outside. We are down to 6 eggs out of 10. We definitely have a chicken coop pest!

We moved her into our chick brooder that is reinforced by hardware cloth. So now her eggs should be safe.

But I didn't see any droppings or any other evidence of animals in the coop. My guess is that rats are the probelm and they realized we no longer have the electric fence. There are some gaps in the coop that rats can easily get in through..

What do you guys think, am I right?
