Beware of me. I might be a lizard person...
I am a consumer advocate in recovery for narcissistic abuse for several years now and on my channel I discuss cults (religious, non-religious, cults of personality), their manipulation tactics and deep dive what makes us fall for these tactics and how we can further protect ourselves. I cover commercial cults as well, better known as multi-level marketing companies and often discuss scams. I study manipulative human behaviour in group settings and the sociology of these group dynamics.
Most recently, I have been covering Love Has Won and Onpassive. Human behaviour is fascinating and the similarities between the recovery from abuse and domestic violence and the recovery from cult/spiritual abuse has really caught my attention. When I left MLM companies, I never thought I would go through hell...
Come on this journey with me.
Please do subscribe. All the beautiful people do!
Much love. Xo

🌿💥 5 Ways to Ground Yourself When Trauma Hits (Cults, Narcissists, & High-Control Groups) 💥🌿
Hey friends — it’s Queen of Karma (again)👑
As someone with Complex PTSD, I know what it’s like when your past ambushes your present.
Sometimes it’s a scent. A voice. A phrase like “you’re overreacting” or “trust the process.”
Suddenly, you're back there — in the room with the cult leader, the manipulator, or the abusive “mentor.”
🧠 These are trauma responses — not weakness.
They are your nervous system trying to keep you alive based on what it’s survived before.
So here are 5 grounding tools that have helped me, and may help you too:
1. 🌬️ 5-4-3-2-1 Senses Game
When you're overwhelmed, pause and name:
5 things you can see
4 things you can touch
3 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste
This pulls your brain out of the past and back into your current environment.
2. ✋ Tapping (EFT)
Use your fingertips to gently tap specific acupressure points (like your temples or under your collarbone) while repeating calming phrases like:
“I am safe. That was then. This is now.”
Tapping helps calm your fight-or-flight response and reconnects you to your body.
3. 📦 Create a Grounding Box
Keep a small kit with:
🔹A calming scent (lavender oil, tea bags, etc.)
🔹Textures (smooth stone, fabric)
🔹A supportive letter from your “safe self”
🔹Reminders of freedom (photo, item from post-cult life)
Reach for it when panic starts to rise.
4. 🚶♀️ Change Your Position
Trauma often freezes us.
Gently move your body — stand up, step outside, stretch, rock back and forth.
Movement reminds your nervous system:
“We’re not trapped anymore. We can leave now.”
5. 💬 Name What’s Happening
Speak it aloud or write it down:
“I’m having a trauma response because this moment reminds me of when I wasn’t safe.”
“But right now, I’m in control. I am free.”
Labeling your feelings helps shrink the fear and return you to the present.
🛟 You are not alone. You are not broken. You are not back there.
Every time you ground yourself, you’re choosing healing over fear — and that’s powerful.

🧠💔 Attachment Theory: Why Trauma Survivors Are Targeted by Cults & Narcissists 💔🧠
Hi friends, it’s Queen of Karma here 👑
I want to open up a bit before diving into this topic.
I’ve been diagnosed with Complex PTSD (CPTSD) since I was 26 — I’m 38 now. Over the past 12 years, I’ve done extensive therapies, research, and deep inner work. I’ve lived through trauma, survived narcissistic abuse, and escaped high-control systems.
So when I talk about how cults and abusers manipulate people with trauma — I’m not speaking from theory alone. I’m speaking from experience, empathy, and the hope that this helps someone else feel seen and safer.
Let’s talk about Attachment Theory — and how it plays a huge role in why some of us fall into cults or toxic relationships.
🔍 What Is Attachment Theory?
Developed by John Bowlby and later expanded by Mary Ainsworth, Attachment Theory explores how the relationships we have with early caregivers shape how we connect with others as adults.
There are four main attachment styles:
1️⃣ Secure – Trusts others, comfortable with closeness
2️⃣ Anxious – Craves connection, fears abandonment
3️⃣ Avoidant – Dismisses closeness, values independence
4️⃣ Disorganized – A mix of fear and desire for connection, often trauma-based
If you grew up with neglect, abuse, or inconsistent caregiving, your attachment style may have developed as a way to survive. But as adults, those survival strategies can leave us vulnerable to manipulation — especially from cults or narcissists.
🧠 Trauma & Mental Health: The Perfect Storm
People with CPTSD, depression, anxiety, or other trauma disorders often feel:
🔹Lonely or emotionally disconnected
🔹Desperate to be accepted or loved
🔹Unsure of their instincts
🔹Isolated from safe communities
This makes us more likely to fall for the false promises of cults or abusive figures who show up with:
✅ Love-bombing
✅ “You belong here” energy
✅ Answers to life’s hardest questions
✅ A clear identity and purpose
They don’t heal you — they trap you using the wounds they pretend to soothe.
🕸️ How Cults Exploit Insecure Attachment
👉🏻Anxious types are pulled in by constant validation, but punished for questioning.
👉🏻Avoidant types are praised for strength, then guilted for “not being loyal enough.”
👉🏻Disorganized types are thrown into chaos with mixed signals, abuse, and conditional love — all under the guise of “growth” or “spiritual tests.”
These aren’t just tactics — they’re psychological hooks designed to keep you dependent.
🛠️ How to Protect Yourself & Begin Healing
🔹Learn Your Patterns – Discover your attachment style and how it affects your relationships.
🔹Go to the Root – Therapy (especially trauma-informed) helps rewire your sense of safety.
🔹Redefine Belonging – Healthy love doesn't punish independence or curiosity.
🔹Choose Safe People – Find those who support your healing instead of demanding loyalty.

You are not broken.
You were hurt — and you were trained to survive in systems that punished your pain.
Now you’re learning how to thrive, not just survive. And I’m cheering for you every step of the way. 💛

✝️🕊️ Universal Life Church: A Closer Look at Its Practices and Controversies 🕊️✝️
Exploring the complexities behind a church known for its inclusive ordinations.
🕊️ What Is the Universal Life Church?
Founded in 1962 by Kirby J. Hensley in Modesto, California, the Universal Life Church (ULC) is a non-denominational religious organization that advocates for religious freedom. Its central tenet is "Do that which is right." The ULC is known for offering legal ordination to become a minister free of charge to anyone who wishes to join, regardless of their religious beliefs or lack thereof.
📜 Beliefs and Practices
The ULC promotes inclusivity and the idea that everyone has the right to practice their religion in their own way. It allows individuals from various backgrounds, including atheists, Christians, Jews, Neopagans, and Wiccans, to become ordained ministers.
⚖️ Legal Challenges and Controversies
The ULC's practice of online ordinations has led to legal challenges concerning the validity of ceremonies performed by its ministers, particularly weddings. For instance, in Tennessee, there was a legal dispute over whether ministers ordained online by the ULC could solemnize marriages.
(Source: ulccaselaw.com)
Additionally, the ULC has faced scrutiny over its tax-exempt status. The IRS denied the Church's application for tax-exempt status in the late 1960s and again in 1970, citing that the Church had engaged in activities outside the religious activities contemplated by the Internal Revenue Code.
🧠 Manipulative Tactics and Concerns
While the ULC promotes religious freedom, concerns have been raised about potential manipulative tactics within religious organizations more broadly. These can include:
🔹Charismatic Leadership: Leaders who position themselves as ultimate authorities, discouraging dissent.
🔹Emotional Manipulation: Using intense emotional experiences to foster dependency and allegiance.
🔹Information Control: Discouraging external input and critical thinking, leading members to rely solely on the organization's teachings.
🔹Isolation: Encouraging members to distance themselves from non-members, including friends and family.
👉🏻 It's essential to approach any organization with a critical mind and be aware of these potential tactics.

🧍♂️💬 The Psychology of Belonging: Why We Join Cults (and How to Heal From It) 🧍♀️💬
Ever wonder why so many smart, kind, well-meaning people get pulled into cults, high-control groups, or toxic online movements?
It's not about intelligence or weakness.
It’s about belonging — one of the most powerful psychological needs we all share.
💡 Why We Crave Belonging
From birth, humans are wired to connect, to be accepted by a tribe, a family, a group. It’s not just emotional — it’s biological survival.
According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, once our basic needs like food and safety are met, we seek love and belonging. We want to be seen, valued, and included.
Neuroscience backs this up too: rejection activates the same brain areas as physical pain. That’s how deep this need runs.
🔗 How Cults Exploit This
Cults — whether spiritual, political, commercial, or online — know this better than anyone. They often target people during times of vulnerability:
👉🏻After a breakup
👉🏻During grief or identity crisis
👉🏻In financial or emotional hardship
👉🏻When someone feels misunderstood or lost
They offer instant community, acceptance, and a sense of purpose. You’re told you’re special. You’re part of “the chosen.” You feel seen.
At first, it feels amazing. You finally belong. (They are also probably love-bombing the heck outta you!!)
But slowly, the love becomes conditional.
Acceptance turns to control.
And questioning turns to isolation.
By the time red flags appear, you may already fear losing the only "family" you have.
🧠 Theories That Explain This Pull
🔹Social Identity Theory (Tajfel & Turner) – We form our identity based on the groups we belong to. Being part of a group gives us self-esteem and meaning. Cults use this to create “us vs. them” mentalities.
🔹Need to Belong Theory (Baumeister & Leary) – This theory says humans have a fundamental drive to form and maintain lasting, positive relationships. It’s so strong, we’ll endure abuse or contradiction just to keep that connection.
🔹Attachment Theory (Bowlby) – People with insecure or traumatic attachments may seek strong, charismatic authority figures or groups to feel safe. Cults present themselves as that protective base.
🛠️ How to Heal and Rebuild Healthy Belonging
💛 Acknowledge Your Needs
You’re not “needy” — you’re human. We all want to be loved and understood. Honor that.
🔍 Examine the Group’s Motives
Healthy communities allow freedom, growth, and questioning. Unhealthy ones demand loyalty, conformity, and secrecy.
🌱 Find Authentic Community
There are people and spaces that accept you without conditions. Support groups, forums, or even one friend who listens with compassion can make all the difference.
🧭 Reconnect with Yourself
Start rebuilding your identity outside the group. Who are you without them? What makes you feel alive? These questions are hard — and freeing.

You didn’t join a cult because you were weak.
You joined because you were human — and you needed to feel like you belonged.
Now, it’s time to belong to yourself first. 💕
