Abbey’s mom from Love On The Spectrum; sharing observations, thoughts, and strategies on my experience with autism. Stuff that helped, things I tried, things I wished I did differently, and everything in between. To clarity where we started; Abbey was diagnosed with autism at 2 .5 yrs old. Needed an aide to go to preschool. Never nonverbal but words had no meaning and lots of echolalia. She went to an autism school as mainstreaming did not work. She had great interventions including 20 years of speech therapy to get her where she is today. Grateful to all the therapist and teachers who went the extra mile.
