RIP Sly - The impact #Slyandthefamilystone had on the generas of both rock and funk cannot be overstated. My dad (who was at Woodstock) told me that when they took the stage at 3 in the morning, not a single person was sitting down when they sang “I Want to Take You Higher.” You shall be remembered Sly!

Just finished filming the JTC Playlist video for Eric Clapton. Thank you all for your patience... it's been a year I'll say that... Busy weekend, but hopefully next week I'll have this video edited and ready. Looking forward to it!

Ya’ll are the best! Thanks for helping this 21 minute progressive rock song 1300+ plays! If you wanna hear it on spotify (and yes I recognize the hypocrisy of hating the company but still using them):
open.spotify.com/album/5lFy1aZyRPiCCvRrCI59aM?si=R…
Or better yet I still have copies on vinyl if anyone wants one!

Preparing a new album - both a time of excitement and anxiety. It’s especially difficult when you’ve planned a very ambitious piece of music and your budget is… well let’s be honest most of us have no budget. Gone are the days when you can be signed and essentially do whatever you want. You want an orchestra to play on this song? Cool, bring in an orchestra. That doesn’t exist anymore and if you get too carried away, you can break your bank.
I can see why so many people go the easy route, doing everything in the box, drum machines, synth instruments, and with AI it’s easier than ever. But this project rejects AI, rejects automation.
So how do you reach your ambition without all the resources at your disposal?
I’m lucky that I have an awesome band of amazing musicians that will push this boulder up the hill, other creatives who are into the idea and a small but loving family who is so supportive. But there will be times when some compromises need to be made and I (and all of us) need to learn to accept those compromises.
Certain people you wanted involved won’t be available and that needs to be accepted. Not everyone shares your passion for the project or may have their own project to focus on. That’s okay. And anyone who criticizes your work and says “Oh you should have used this studio or this method and it would have sounded a lot better” can take a hike. If they were so concerned, they would have offered to be involved.
And sometimes the limitations are what make the greatest ideas. #TheBeatles and #PinkFloyd came at a time when technology had not quite caught up to what they wanted to do, so the experimentation and pioneering days of making records made for the best sounds and most emotional expressions. It’s not as fun a story when you can just write a prompt and something will magically appear.
There will be sleepless nights, compromises made, favors asked, but that’s the way it goes. Suffering for your art is a real thing. Many of us don’t have a lot of time in this world and we can’t just live our lives for the paycheck. We have to keep making art and moving forward in whatever way we can.
I’m off start work on this MF… (Long exhaled sigh).

Well asking for followers on Instagram worked out so well, might as well ask if ya’ll can follow me on #spotify (yeah the company sucks but it’s a necessary evil these days): open.spotify.com/artist/1RRkqZ7SUQcenn985bYSIR?si=…
And while you’re at maybe give Elements on Vinyl a few more spins 😎

Yet another reason I’m using #DuckDuckGo as my #searchengine (FYI I’m not sponsored by them or anything) - Not only does DuckDuckGo not track your browsing history to sell to advertising, but unlike Google, there’s actually a preference to disable AI tools (which as I’ve mentioned uses up so mich more energy than a standard engine search).
