IID is a public entity in southeastern California with dual purposes. As a special district, IID is the largest irrigation district in the United States (in terms of water volume) and the third largest public power provider in California. IID maintains more than 3,000 miles of canals and drains, delivering about 2.6 million acre-feet of Colorado River water annually to the Imperial Valley. IID also provides electricity to more than 165,000 electric meters in Imperial and part of Riverside counties. The district manages approximately 1,100 megawatts of energy derived from a diverse portfolio of renewable and nonrenewable sources, including its own generation and purchased power.
