Known as Naga Kencana (translated as Golden Dragon), the Gamelan Ensemble aims to promote the appreciation and awareness of the diverse styles of Gamelan music to the Republic Polytechnic (RP) community. Gamelan refers to an indigenous Indonesian orchestra which encompasses a large variety of instruments belonging to an ancient cornucopia of regions and styles. The instruments played include drums, variously tuned bronze gongs, and different sets of bronze metallophones, cymbals and flutes.
Established since 2007, we are the only tertiary in Singapore to have a Gamelan Ensemble and we are blessed to be under the guidance of our talented teachers and alumnis!
