Nağme Yarkın
She's an Kemenche of Istanbul performer, composer and academic originally from Istanbul.
She's known for her music combining Anatolian music and jazz music. As "Yarkın Duo", which she founded with his brother, jazz and tango pianist Baturay Yarkın, in 2017, they had concerts and albums, in which they used both the intervals and rhythms of Turkish music and the tones of jazz and Western music. She has also performed at jazz festivals as "Baturay Yarkın Trio & Nağme Yarkın". She had concerts in many cities in Europe, USA, Canada and Turkey and workshops about traditional Ottoman/Turkish music at Berklee Collage of Music, GMW Silkroad Project, Vittadini Conservatorio, University of Alberta etc. She works as an Assoc. Prof. at the Istanbul University State Conservatory. She released her solo kemençe album KÜNH, which contains her 12 new compositions with new understanding in 2022. She's in Canada to teach for a year upon the invitation she received from the UofA in the 2022-2023 season.
