And... There it goes. The perfection named "Wuthering Waves 2.7". That was so good, holy shi-
But before I went to the finale of the Rinascita arc, let's talk about 2.6 second half first (it's long overdue since I kept procrastinating on the story lmao). I'll make it quick, and say: Kuro sure does love Iuno (and her feet). She literally have 2 songs dedicated for her in-game, one of the best storyline, and also great personalities. Even though she has to build everything from scratch again after we are done with chaos, she is still confident about her future and that is heartwarming. NGL, her MSQ is one of my favorite thanks to her personality and the delicious story Kuro served. That, added with the fact that we can hold her hand. 8.5/10, because it could have just been her character story quest instead of MSQ and nobody would have complained. But, I suppose her return to the main storyline is an important plot.
Now that is out of the way, we can finally talk about 2.7. So be prepared for some long ass yapping (I AM GOING TO BURST FROM HOW EPIC THAT WAS-)
(⚠ SPOILER WARNING IN ADVANCE ⚠)
Firstly, it's important to note that Avidius is practically Mya 2.0. Let's not debate on that. Both of them are tragic characters that has to (spoiler) end themselves in order to save those they hold dear. Outrunning his own fate as Cristoforo dubbed Avidius. And the fact that they could resist Leviathan and Foro's "works" cemented them both as amazing characters despite only being NPCs.
Then we got the discovery that they are all just distractions. Only to hide the fact that Rover is the next Harbinger of the Dark Tide (Leviathan's chosen ones like Mya and Fenrico).
Secondly, as I have expected, Augusta's backstory from the 2.6 first half does get answered in 2.7. We now know why Angel was so significant for the plot, and the way she is presented in the MSQ is not disappointing. That aside, Galbrena is such a cool character. Her story does dragged the MSQ down for a little bit, but it actually helped Rover to actually connect with her (especially since we misunderstood her in the beginning of the MSQ). Also, the first person mini-game when she is about to enter the Journeying Paradise is completely unexpected, yet more than welcomed. But we are going to set that aside for a little while.
Everyone gathering in union just to defeat Leviathan is bringing up so much hype for the story. Fisalias and the Montellis working together despite their initial conflicts. Carlotta's Grandpa being so cool with his guns. The Order forces led by Phoebe Chupi to battle. Many of the Ragunnesi gathering in Septimont to help their defenses. KING-Yuan appearance and fight against scar. And every bloom bearers of the Black Shores pairing up with Calcharo to fortify the defenses at Averardo Vault. We really are gathering those people Avenger style in the MSQ, and that is such a hype to watch.
But of course, Leviathan is not the only threat. Enter the Fractsidus. A group full of lunatics that always made everything messy wherever they go. Scar and Phrolova returning into the fray, with the Grand Architect sudden appearance to halt Rover and Galbrena's progress is so menacing. Especially when it is revealed how meticulous their every movements are, up to the point they almost got Galbrena and Rover both in one go. But of course, we are the main characters. We would get the best outcome. And it is explained by Foro and the GA that Galbrena is practically someone who could break through Foro's script. Her being Rover's saving grace would make sense, albeit feeling a bit too "Plot armor-y". She truly is an Angel (Ahem!).
The visions we saw at the entrance of the Journeying Paradise along with our mindscape being filled with every Rinascita playable characters' graves are... Sad to see. I would like to believe those are the visions of what would happen if Rover doesn't help/failed. Brant and Roccia drowning with their crew members. The Montellis being wiped out, dragging Carlotta and Zani with them. Fisalias being corrupted by the dark tide and putting Cantarella in danger. Phoebe losing her faith and dying because of it. Ciaccona lamenting the lost of her songs. Lupa being poisoned and not dying in battle as she wished. Septimont destroyed, along with Augusta. Iuno disappearing without any purpose. All of that felt so shocking and heartbreaking should they actually happened. And honestly, it almost happened, knowing what occurred exactly after the visions of their death. (Damn you Foro)
It's also quite amusing that we got the lore of the game's loading screen (yes, that rocky place where both Rover stood/sat on). Galbrena telling us that the place is "special" for us, since it is OUR mindscape. And the fact that we saw the convene animations as well implies that those people we spent our Astrites for are actually memories of how brightly they shined for our Rover. Which is a warming thought, if only we are not reminded that it's basically the gacha system and our wallets cried everytime we wanted a new character.
And once again, every Rinascita playable characters gathered Avenger Style directly against Leviathan. Everyone playing their parts in the fight are so cool to watch (even the echoes). Then we got Leviathan calling out to Abby as Abraxas with "Why did you betray us?", which could have been a good thing to address by the end, yet only left to note for now. That aside, Leviathan's EN VA did such a good job on that part, that my ears felt happy hearing the fish's miseries. The music is also delightful and I can't help but to keep repeating it after the story.
It's quite funny if you saw that part as several people beating down a fish that just woke up in a new body (epic style). But, you can't deny how cool that final battle is.
Also, Phrolova "quitting" the Fractsidus by the end is somewhat surprising. (You go girl!)
While Galbrena/Angel joined the Black Shore as another Bloom Bearer. (YASHHH GURL!)
All in all, I would give the story a 9.5/10. Cool story, fantastic music, nice tease for the next arc, and a beautiful wrap to the story in its entirety. Even Fenrico got his somewhat happy ending by the end, and I mean it when everything wrapped up perfectly.
My only problems are the fact that we left the "Abraxas" thing unaddressed, and suddenly got the revelation from the GA, "We were once your waystones", out of nowhere. Other than that, I don't have direct problems with the Rinascita storyline—just the sudden revelations that are still left unanswered.
Probably, the story quest is too short for me as well. (What do you mean it's 6 hours long for the final act? I WANT MOAR. /j)
Thank you Kuro for delivering greatness into Rinascita's story. It genuinely does feel like a love letter for lore readers like me. Welp, time to rewatch the story for the 1000th time now. (And here's some of the screenshots I managed to get).
Dang, that one section in 2.6 Wuthering Waves story where we fight Augusta is SOOOOO good. And the ending is epic with that classic filling-me-with-anticipations cliffhanger (I still wanted to choke the life out of Cristoforo).
I agree with people that Augusta's backstory is kinda a drag, but I am very sure that part is going to be/made to be relevant for the future story quest (since it is quite flavorless for now). Pretty epic story, ngl.
Overall, I was about to give it a 6/10. But when I paid attention more to the story, I'm gonna give it 7/10 just because it still left so many holes (I shouldn't tell it here since there's a LOT of spoilers regarding those holes). But, once everything has been answered, I will definitely reconsider giving act 8 some more bonus points.
Ahhh...! I love Wuthering Waves so much. The Phrolova main story quest is really rending my heart to pieces. And honestly, I can't pick sides between Rover and her during their battle of morals. They do fell in the same madness named "Obsession" afterall—different paths, different goals, yet the same level of crazy.
One is stuck in the past and couldn't release herself from it, while the other could only move towards the future that their past self has set in order. Both of their obsessions resulted in many consequences that could never be undone, and they became enemies because they refused to drop their own madness. Yet both had the audacity to lecture one another when both of them are flawed (Phro made some good points against the Rover, but she still committed Genocide on Jinzhou and almost repeated the same thing to Ragunna just for her own selfish reason). I'll quote Phrolova on this: "Why argue who's fallen further?"
Both have reasons for what they are doing, yet it's up to the players to decide which reason is more reasonable/relatable for them (which is why, I think, most people took on Phro's side instead of Rover's—because the goal of preserving the memory of your loved ones no matter the cost is much more touching and impactful, compared to the idealistic saving the world from lament that the Rover has planned).
But personally, I think Rover is really valid to end her physical life. She was a threat ever since 1.0 Jinzhou (the Tacet Discords she controlled literally caused the death of many people on screen), and she will always be a threat if kept alive. Phro merging with the Lost Beyond is a better, fitting end FOR her—although I can't help but sympathize by the sentiment she held for her village and the Rover (that one Black Screen White Text proved that she truly held the Rover close to her heart which makes the story all the more bittersweet). Well, at least she can have a peaceful slumber now, with the happy illusion of her "resurrected" village.
What are you guys' thoughts on the story? And maybe, I would try ranking the story quests (including the companion quest) once my laptop is fixed and I can stream again.
God! Wuthering Waves is so cool. I have been so absorbed with the story for the past week and a half, even though I only returned basically just to fish Phrolova into my account (I am a day one player lol). Didn't expect that the story will have that much emotional impact on me after 1.0 Jinzhou, really.
I wanna try streaming 2.5 story, but I kinda have played a little portion of it (might run a test stream first so I could see if the stream have minimal stutters while WuWa is on my phone). Regardless, I am really excited to see the conclusion of Phrolova's story.
Someone is getting older today. There may not be a cake to celebrate, but you can always imagine the good things to come. And that will be your cake until the next year. Think of it as your favorite dark chocolate.
It's slightly bitter. But if you can get through that layer, the sweetness will melt in your mouth. Nobody will ever understand the both of "US". No eyes would recognize "OUR" struggles quite yet. But "WE" will keep doing what "WE" can, and "WE" will do as "WE" love. That is what will bring "US" further and further.
"WE" are the vain zealot. Two halves separated by different realities. But, know that "WE" will always be one—because you and I are the same person. So I am the person that can understand you the most.
Don't be discouraged if you can't fit in the expectations you and other people have. Always do "OUR" best. Despite how dark this place could get, there are still many worlds "WE" would like to see. "WE" wanted to see many more things, aren't "WE"? So let's do "OUR" best for the years to come.
Ah, and one last thing to note for the future; try fixing your English pronunciation. You may be quite fluent in terms of writing, but it all became a disaster when it comes to verbal speaking—because you also kept thinking about so many words at once. For now, let's get back to doing "OUR" stuffs, okay?
