I blog about TableTop RolePlaying Games (TTRPGs.) I talk about what TTRPGs mean to me as well as specific games such as Dragonbane, ICONS, and others. We will also be dipping into the industry, the "community" (such that it is these days) and more. You can also find me on my blog at JeffsGameBox.blog.

Jeff's Game Box

Okay. I promise I really will be back. This week has been a bit more hectic here at home than I anticipated. We will be back discussing my favorite fantasy TTRPG, DRAGONBANE very soon. Here's one review on the horizon:

Please pardon our mess. We're cleaning some things up for our soft relaunch at the end of late September. We're building new videos, a channel trailer, and hopefully something magical behind the scenes in the meantime. Hang in there. We'll be back.
Edit: Late September.

I think I accidentally offended someone at VidIQ. Not sure exactly how. <shrug.>

This week's video is running way late. Welcome to summer at my house.

How important is it to see comments on any given video?

Jeff's Game Box

This isn't a "Debate me, Bro" moment.
I hear a lot of DungeonTubers crying "conspiracy theorist" and "outrage mill" whenever they're talking about their own critics before anyone else has a chance to insert an opinion.

Poisoning the Well: Presenting adverse information about a person or argument before they have a chance to make their case, so that any subsequent statements they make are discredited out of hand.

Ad Hominem: Attacking the person (e.g., calling them part of an “outrage mill”) rather than addressing the substance of their argument.

I think a lot of the crying over "clickbait titles" and such has a lot more to do with a certain awesome somebody calling out the Daggerheart Community Gaming License for what it is: an absolute disgrace. The truth does tend to sting. Ironic how the same people who called out Wizards of the Coast in 2023 are now doing their darndest to cover for Darrington Press doing the exact same thing.

The TTRPG community is afflicted with a disease of sorts right now. One that is easily cured if DungeonTubers would start leaning into honesty, authenticity, and sincerity. (Daggerheart, cough-cough) If you look at the big names, you will find plenty of fake smiles, big sponsors, and behind-the-scenes deals, but not much by way of honesty, authenticity, or sincerity. They're even starting to turn on one another for clicks. Sad, really.

The TTRPG industry may not look a total mess, but it's only because the smell hasn't reached everyone's noses just yet. Certain DungeonTubers, who shan't be named, are more than happy to shill for multiple companies at once. Once wonders if Wizards of the Coast is sending them script material. I guess if we're going to make videos chock full of toxic positivity whilst dumping all over our fellow content creators without naming names, may as well continue pretending it's not all one massive shitshow. Ain't that right, Bob?
