On 6th June 1946 Shri Samirbaran Dasgupta & Shri Afzal Hossain along with a few friends, started a cultural group. After the untimely death of one of their friends, Manju Choudhury, the cultural group was rechristened as Manju Smriti Majlish, which later introduced competitive cultural events in Shillong the capital of Meghalaya.
In 1952, the group decided to hold a children’s meet every year. “Although competition was to form the basis of the annual get-together of the children, there should be a festive spirit pervading the session, and so the cultural meet was given the name Ananda Sammelan.
Ananda Sammelan celebrated its golden jubilee with grand celebrations in the year 1996 in Shillong.
