Chimera (pronounced as "shĭ-mēr'ə") was formed in 1990 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The line-up included Eileen Henry (voice), Ted Laverty (guitar), Steven T. Emerson (bass), and Willie Vincent (drums).

On their first releases 'Ellis Bleeds', 'Lughnasa' and 'Cyan Daze', which were published in 1993 by Flute Worldwide Ltd., the band created an Ethereal/Noise-Pop sound, interspersed with Post-Punk and Gothic Rock undertones, often compared to the music of the Cocteau Twins, The Sundays, The Cranberries, My Bloody Valentine, and also Siouxsie & The Banshees. It will come as no surprise to anyone who has noticed the variety of the musical ingredients: All records have been produced by Chris Nagle (Joy Division, The Sisters of Mercy, The Wake, The Stone Roses).

In the mid-'90s, Chimera signed to an American label, Grass Records, and dropped the Post-Punk mood in favour of a more US-friendly Alternative Rock style. Their last works were 'The Day Star EP' in 1995 and 'Earth Loop' in 1996.
