The Inspector-General of Water Compliance is a statutory office holder with oversight, monitoring, regulatory functions and powers, established under the Water Act (2007). Through this role, the Inspector-General commits to:
Deliver trust and transparency around the management of Murray-Darling Basin water resources
Ensure the highest standard of accountability for all involved in the use and management of Basin resources, including state and Commonwealth agencies
Engage with the community on management of Basin resources.
The Inspector-General is independent. The Inspector-General is supported by staff employed by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).
