Street Widow /strēt ˈwidō/: A woman who has lost her partner due to street-related circumstances.
Everyday black men are lost to the streets. And everyday there’s a wife, girlfriend, mother who has to pick up the pieces of what once was their life.

I’m from Louisville, KY where the homicide rate per capita is 5x higher than a Chicago. Let’s put this into perspective with numbers: Chicago has 8.9 million residents and had 797 homicides last year. Louisville has 600,000 residents and had 188 homicides last year. That's 2,820 Louisville homicides to Chicago’s 797. Yet, I meet people all over the world who don’t even think black people live in Kentucky. It’s my mission to share OUR stories & show that every hood, every city, every state, every country has Street Widows! & We are all one in the same!

Some of us heal in public, so those healing in private can keep going! This is me healing in public!
