The Flying VLOG

3-day mission: fly out, hire a car, watch F1 at Eau Rouge, then battle thunderstorms all the way home on Sunday. Race got washed out (classic Spa!), but dodging CBs on the return flight was an adventure in itself. Proper challenging but totally worth it. Would do it again… with more buffer time! 😂

The Flying VLOG

If you loved the chaos of Spa F1 (rain delays, massive spray, and pure Ardennes drama), you’ll feel the same energy on this return flight.

Will we beat the severe weather and land in the UK before sunset? Watch until the end to find out!

Light GA pilots, who else still uses the good old Mark 1 eyeball for weather avoidance, even with Golze satellite weather on the tablet?
The sat pics and radar are brilliant for the big picture and early rerouting, but when things get close (last 30 miles), nothing beats sticking your head out and trusting what you actually see out the windshield.

The Flying VLOG

Since I was a kid, I’ve always dreamed of going to F1 races, and flying has been my biggest passion for decades. This trip was me finally smashing both together in one mad adventure. Cockpit one minute, grandstands the next.

This Wing Tuesday hype has me craving unlimited chicken wings, but it also reminded me of a throwback flight last summer. I was flying over an occlusion; most of the ground was completely fogged in, with just the occasional pop of convection breaking through. Days like that really put the value of an Instrument Rating into perspective. While VFR pilots were stuck on the ground, I could file, climb above the mess, and keep going safely. Definitely one of those flights that makes you appreciate the IR perks.

Throwback to last July: Parked the aeroplane at Cologne Airport (CGN), bags packed, heart racing, heading to my very first F1 track experience at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps for the Belgian Grand Prix!

Full vlog series coming soon: airport arrival, journey to Spa, trackside highlights, weather drama (classic Spa!), and all the behind-the-scenes fun. Plus, a detailed blog post dropping with tips for first-timers heading to an F1 race via Europe IFR flights in General Aviation. Stay tuned!

Amsterdam Schiphol stands out as a remarkably affordable and welcoming gem for general aviation among Europe's major hub airports, offering reasonable fees of roughly €200–€325 for a typical single-engine piston aircraft visit while providing seamless access to one of the continent's most charming and picturesque cities.

Just a few weeks after the Nuremberg chaos (ice build-up, storms, brutal headwinds home), back in the DA40 for IFR to Schiphol. Dodged the weather and nailed the RNP into a bumpy summer's day in Amsterdam.

The Flying VLOG

After nearly 9 years of filming and sharing vlogs on YouTube, I've posted 67 videos in my 'European Airways & Beyond, IFR' series — and I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who’s watched and supported along the way.

Life (and a full-time job) has kept me from being as consistent as I’d like, and I’ve fallen behind on editing and uploading more times than I can count. But I’m ready for a new chapter.

I’m giving the brand a refresh and evolving it into The Flying VLOG — with a renewed focus on creating more engaging, watchable videos that reach a bigger audience while still telling the story that’s always driven me: the world is your oyster, the sky is open to anyone with the passion to chase it.

This won’t happen overnight — it’s going to be a process of experimenting, improving storytelling, tightening the edits, and finding the right balance with my schedule. I’m genuinely excited about what’s ahead, and I’d love for you to come along for the journey. New era incoming ✈️

Stay tuned — more to share soon!
