Welcome to Sociology 119 (also known as "SOC 119")! And yes, this is a real college course at the Pennsylvania State University. In fact, SOC 119 is the largest race and culture class taught in the United States (probably the world if you include our YouTube community).
Dr. Sam Richards has been the instructor of this course since 1991.
You’ll likely have opinions (one way or another) regarding what you’re watching (hopefully, anyway), but you might only watch just one or maybe a few videos. There are 2,250 minutes in a single semester (plus 1,350 hours of Office Hours). It’s likely that something you wish had been discussed was addressed, but in another video.
If you find yourself disagreeing about something or (more importantly) if Sam really does miss an important point, let us know. He really is trying to be thoughtful and fair-minded.

Hello to our wonderful SOC 119 YouTube Community!
We wanted to inform you of a change to our channel that might interest you!
Today we added two more tiers to the membership options for those of you would like to support the channel financially. To be ultra clear, all the money raised through the channel goes to the World in Conversation budget which is used to continue the live stream. Sam is not making money from these memberships.
All higher tiers get the features of all tiers below.
Tier 1: "Dude" $2.99/month
You get a loyalty badge that is visible on the live stream chat and in the comment section. All members get early access to uploads (highlight videos and shorts) for at least 12 hours before they go public. Finally, you have access to a few custom emojis that you can use in our live stream chat and in our comment section.
Tier 2: "Dawg" $9.99/month
As a special thank you for supporting the channel, we will put your name on a slide as part of the Class Pre-Loop - a slideshow that plays the first 5-10 minutes of every class live stream. In addition, we will read your name out at the end of every Office Hours stream. And finally, we will put your name at the end of every highlight video for the month you are subscribed (based on the live stream date).
Tier 3: "Bro" $19.99/month
For those who really want to support the channel, we will prioritize your !addq questions on the live stream chat. That doesn't mean ALL your questions will answered (especially during class), but it will put at least one of your questions to the top of the list and it will be pushed by the team to get answered.

Hello SOC 119 Community.
Over the past few years we've allowed YouTube to automatically place ads in our videos wherever it seemed fit. Last night, our editor was reading through comments and saw someone complain about the amount of ads. After investigating, he quickly realized the commenter was correct and there were too many ads placed by YouTube.
We have reduced the ads from this semester, as well as the previous semester's live streams. We will continue to go through our video library to find more streams and highlight videos with an absurd number of ads and we will massively reduce them.
We sincerely apologize.
Our intention was not to run as many ads as possible.
We will do better moving forward with monitoring our ad placements.
