Around 300,000 years ago lava created and shaped the largest of the Canary Islands: Tenerife. The island has a surface area of 2034.38 square kilometres and is located in the subtropical temperate zones. Thanks to the trade winds and the Cold Canarian Current it has a mild spring-like temperature, with a yearly average of 23 degrees centigrade.
