Balan Dosa was started in 1977 by Balakrishnan Pullur with an aim to serve dishes belonging to his motherland in Kerala but with a twist. He started this journey from Ratri Bazaar, in the Manek Chowk area of old Ahmedabad. The unique thing about this place was it was a jewellers market during the day time and as the night set in the place was buzzing with various food stalls offering various types of dishes that were not available anywhere else in the city.
Of all the various south Indian restaurants and food stalls that offered Dosas and Idlis to the. people of the city, Mr Pullur decided to serve them with a bit of twist that matches the taste buds of the city as well as some recipes were the masterstroke by Mr Pullur himself.
