— WEEKLY DISCUSSION TOPIC: Tarantino —

What do you all think makes Tarantino Tarantino? What sets apart the way he paces scenes and writes dialogue?

(I just saw Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair with some friends, and I am SO DELIRIOUSLY EXCITED about my upcoming Kill Bill video! After that, back to Stranger Things!)

WEEKLY DISCUSSION: Is Hollywood Dead?

I am SERIOUSLY eager to hear people’s opinions on this one! Is Hollywood dead? Is it fundamentally broken? Or just in a period of transition? Or is there nothing wrong at all?

There is a sentiment out there that good movies are becoming rarer and rarer. Hollywood relies too much on franchises and remakes and sequels, gimmicks and fabricated cultural moments, film has become content.

On the other hand, there still HAVE been some great movies in the last few years. What do you think? Is it broken? Breaking? Dead? Transforming? Are there problems? Fixable? How? Or no problems?

And is TV any different? Have new seasons let you down? Or is TV still going strong?

Let me know your thoughts and let's discuss!

In the vein of my State of the Schnunion call for people to go out and make things, I want to share this video from a youtuber I really respect about the ups and downs of the creative process (with youtube, but it applies to all creative projects).

I think there are two types of creatives (with lots of people feeling both depending on the day, or depending on the project). There are creatives who think every new thing theyre currently making is THE BEST THING EVER which is why they HAVE to make it, and they are constantly enthusiastic to the point of haughtiness at times about how AMAZING their newest thing is.

And then there are the creatives who are so vision driven that nothing they do ever measures up to their own standards, they are constantly pessimistic about their own work, no matter how incredible it is by everyone else's standards.

BOTH ARE OK! BOTH produce FANTASTIC work! But I think each category sees the other and second guesses themselves, thinking that they're not good enough. The enthusiastics think they cant possibly be as good as they imagine because everyone else is so critical, of themselves and others. The pessimists see the enthusiasm other people have and think their own work cant be good if they dont feel that way. BUT BOTH ARE GOOD! I'm more of the enthusiastic type, seems like SuperEyePatch is more the pessimistic type, although some videos i DEFINITELY feel like this (vader and solo videos, lookin at you...)

WEEKLY DISCUSSION TOPIC: A New Medium of Short Film

Welcome the FIRST of the weekly discussion topics that we'll try out doing here!

Ok this is something I’ve been thinking about for months now that I’ve really wanted to discuss with everyone, because I may have active plans in the works involving this idea…

Short films still have not found a healthy home on the internet. No one watches independently made short films on youtube, the algorithm doesn’t promote it. But I’ve noticed that nowadays, people have started watching random clips from shows and movies they’ve never seen before. The clips have no context, just a good clickbaity thumbnail and title, or opening few seconds. And algorithms LOVE these clips.

Do you think there could be a whole new genre of “short series” that takes advantage of this odd mode of story consumption people seem to like?

Try to put aside all biases about bemoaning the attention spans of kids these days. Do you think a series of independent context-less short scenes could become a new format of media in today’s landscape?

Excited to hear your thoughts!!

What did everyone think of Arcane S2's use of music? If you disliked the season, did the way they used music contribute at all to that?
