WEEKLY DISCUSSION TOPIC: A New Medium of Short Film
Welcome the FIRST of the weekly discussion topics that we'll try out doing here!
Ok this is something I’ve been thinking about for months now that I’ve really wanted to discuss with everyone, because I may have active plans in the works involving this idea…
Short films still have not found a healthy home on the internet. No one watches independently made short films on youtube, the algorithm doesn’t promote it. But I’ve noticed that nowadays, people have started watching random clips from shows and movies they’ve never seen before. The clips have no context, just a good clickbaity thumbnail and title, or opening few seconds. And algorithms LOVE these clips.
Do you think there could be a whole new genre of “short series” that takes advantage of this odd mode of story consumption people seem to like?
Try to put aside all biases about bemoaning the attention spans of kids these days. Do you think a series of independent context-less short scenes could become a new format of media in today’s landscape?
