Breakbeats can be used in different styles of music but originally came from old funk albums. These beats were looped and used to make an entire song while keep every one dancing all night. Electronic music uses the same term to describe a genre; however, this not the same use in this case. In this form it simply means any beat that is looped and is only about one or two measures long. This beat can beat used as backing track to jam with, record, produce, rap or for whatever you want to use it for.
