Ch-a Mosley - Pregnancy Over Forty
At 38 I started having quiet conversations with myself that sound familiar to a lot of women.
Maybe it's not meant to happen.
Maybe if I really wanted it I would have made it happen by now.
Maybe I'm too old.
That voice was not wisdom.
That was fear dressed up as logic.
I'm Ch-a Mosley — I became a first time mom at 47 naturally with my own eggs.
Your dreams have not expired.
Your fear is just loud right now.

Ch-a Mosley - Pregnancy Over Forty
One of the biggest problems with the low-tox conversation is that it can feel completely overwhelming. These days it seems everything is toxic and we’re all going to die! It gets overwhelming - at least for me anyway. I’m sure I’m not alone.
You start looking at your bathroom cabinet and suddenly you're wondering:
Is my shampoo safe?
Is my deodorant safe?
What about my makeup?
My detergent?
My cookware?
And then you think:
“𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘁. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀.”
But here's the thing:
𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼.
When I interviewed 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗴, 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝘁𝗼𝘅 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁, one of the messages I appreciated most was her emphasis on making changes gradually.
One product at a time.
When you run out of something, replace it with a better option.
Start with the things you use every single day.
Start with the products that stay on your skin.
Start reducing unnecessary fragrance.
Get rid of the plug-ins.
Stop heating your food in plastic.
Replace the scratched nonstick pan.
Choose a simpler cleaning product.
You don't need to create a perfect home.
You need to create a 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲.
And this is important for women trying to conceive because fertility shouldn't become another arena where we beat ourselves up for not doing everything perfectly.
The goal isn't perfection. It's awareness and reduction.
Making better choices when you have the opportunity to make them.
Because your reproductive health doesn't exist separately from your overall health.
And sometimes the most powerful change isn't one dramatic intervention.
It's the accumulation of hundreds of small decisions you make over time.
𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘄𝗮𝗽 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.
Then another.
Then another.

I thought I was giving her everything.
I had no idea how much she would give me.
The playfulness.
The imagination.
The way she makes ordinary moments feel like magic.
I'm Ch-a Mosley, first time mom at 47.
Life is more beautiful because she is in it.
I don't just mean that as a sentiment.
I mean that as a fact.
She gave me a version of myself I didn't know was still possible.

Women aren't the only ones who need to look at their lifestyle when they're trying to conceive.
Men do too!
We can spend months talking to women about their eggs while the man beside her is:
Eating ultra-processed food every day. Drinking heavily on the weekends. Sleeping four or five hours a night and sitting all day. Often, they have the gut to prove it.
So why wonder conception isn't happening.
I'm being blunt because this conversation matters.
𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.
Sperm production is influenced by the man's overall health and environment.
So if you're a couple trying to conceive, don't make this:
“What's wrong with HER eggs?”
Make it:
“𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀?”
That shift changes the conversation.
It moves you away from blame and toward responsibility.
It also reminds us that fertility isn't simply about whether a woman has “enough eggs.”
It's about the health of two people coming together to create a pregnancy.
So yes, women should be thinking about their hormones, nutrition, sleep and environmental exposures.
But men?
You don't get to sit this one out.
Put down the Axe. Step away from the microwave meal.
Get some sleep.Eat like your future child is counting on you.
Because it is.

I believed a version of this for longer than I want to admit.
The fear of being alone and running out of time kept me in situations that weren't aligned with what I actually wanted.
But being alone at 40 was not my biggest risk.
Staying in the wrong place was.
I'm Ch-a Mosley — I was single at 44 and became a first time mom at 47 naturally with my own eggs.
Alone is not the worst thing.
Misaligned is.

If you're a practitioner working with women who are trying to conceive, I want to ask you something:
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲?
Not just her cycle, AMH, FSH and the usual labs.
Her LIFE.
Food. Sleep. Alcohol?
What products does she use on her body or use to clean her home?
Does she make your office smell like a perfume aisle? Ask her about it.
What does she do for work? What does her stress load look like?
I say this because too many women write me DEVASTATED. The doctor said I have low AMH.
I'm not suggesting practitioners become detectives or make every patient overhaul her entire life.
I'm suggesting we widen the lens. A low AMH result can be clinically meaningful.
But the woman sitting in front of you is more than her AMH.
Her reproductive health exists inside a whole human body.
And that body exists inside a whole environment.
That's why I keep coming back to this simple idea:
𝗘𝗴𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵.
I wish all fertility conversations reflected that.

Motherhood is hard.
Nobody is pretending otherwise.
But hard is not the same as not worth it.
And age is not the same as incapable.
I'm Ch-a Mosley — I became a first time mom at 47 and my daughter is the greatest joy of my entire life.
The narrative that motherhood is too hard, too stressful and not worth it is robbing women of something irreplaceable.
You deserve the full picture before you decide.

I have a confession.
I am that woman in the parking lot wondering why I can smell you and your car before you've even gotten out of it. 😂
You know what I'm talking about.
Those intense car air fresheners. The perfume and dryer-sheet smell wafting through the air.
And sometimes there's a baby being carried out of that same car.
I'm not saying this to shame anyone.
Most of us grew up believing that “clean” meant something smelled strongly.
Our homes were supposed to smell like lemon and clothes like “Mountain Fresh,” whatever that is.
But fragrance can be much more complicated than simply “a nice smell.”
In my interview with 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗴, 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝘁𝗼𝘅 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁, she explained that the word fragrance on an ingredient label can represent a proprietary mixture of ingredients that consumers aren't necessarily able to identify individually.
And some fragrance chemicals—including phthalates used in some fragranced products—have been studied for their potential effects on hormone and reproductive health.
We should know what we're being exposed to.
Especially when an exposure is:
• Daily
• Repeated
• Unnecessary
• And something we can reasonably reduce
You don't have to throw everything away today. Maybe your next shampoo is fragrance-free.
Maybe you stop using plug-ins.
Maybe you simply start reading the labels and searching with that EWG App you once heard about.
𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲.
And when it comes to fertility, I think women deserve to understand the whole picture—not just the number on their AMH report.

This is the part nobody talks about honestly enough.
We don't always settle because someone convinced us we aren't worthy.
Sometimes we settle because we convince ourselves our window is closing.
A ticking clock is a powerful thing.
It can quietly talk you into shrinking your standards and calling it being realistic.
I'm Ch-a Mosley, first time mom at 47.
Your standards are not the problem.
Your timeline is just not what you expected.

Ch-a Mosley - Pregnancy Over Forty
Sometimes we think about fertility as something happening inside the reproductive organs.
But your body doesn't work in isolated compartments.
The hormones involved in ovulation, implantation, pregnancy and sperm production are influenced by the environment your entire body is operating in.
That means we should be paying attention to more than just what's happening on a lab report.
Think about the products you use every day.
Shampoo.
Lotion.
Makeup.
Deodorant.
Perfume.
Laundry products.
Cleaning sprays.
Air fresheners.
The plastics you heat your food in.
The products sitting in your bathroom.
The products sitting in your car.
You don't have to panic about every single one.
You don't have to throw your entire house away.
And you certainly don't have to achieve some impossible version of “toxin-free.”
But you CAN start asking better questions.
That's one of the things I loved about my conversation with 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗴, 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝘁𝗼𝘅 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁.
Her philosophy wasn't perfection.
It was reduction.
One product at a time.
One swap at a time.
One less unnecessary exposure at a time.
That's a much more sustainable way to think about this.
Because the goal isn't to live in a bubble.
The goal is to become more intentional about what you're repeatedly putting into and onto your body.
𝗙𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵.
And sometimes improving your fertility conversation starts with looking at what you're surrounding your body with every single day.
