Ch-a Mosley - Pregnancy Over Forty

We need to talk about one of the most damaging half-truths in modern fertility: the way AMH gets weaponized against women.

Every week, I hear the same story in my community:

“My AMH is 0.5.”
“Mine is 0.17.”
“The clinic told me my numbers are terrible.”

And then the quiet part:

“I feel broken.”
“I feel like I’m out of time.”
“I don’t even want to talk about this with anyone.”

Here’s the truth your clinic may not be saying out loud:

- To get pregnant, you need one egg each month, not hundreds.
- Many women still have 1–2 viable eggs even at 45–46 when we actually scan their ovaries.
- Ovulation and egg quality matter more for natural conception than your AMH printout.

AMH can be a helpful data point in an IVF lab, but outside of that context it’s often used to sell urgency, cycles, and packages. The result? Women spiral into anxiety over a number that does not, by itself, determine whether they can conceive naturally.

What really breaks my heart is what this does emotionally.

Instead of:

- Listening to their bodies
- Tracking real ovulation signs
- Nourishing their gut, hormones, sleep and relationships

Women are sent home with a “poor AMH” label and a brochure for the next round of treatment. They shut down, self-criticize, and start comparing their lab printouts like report cards.

That’s how a lab value becomes an introvert-maker:

- You stop sharing because you’re ashamed of “bad numbers.”
- You hesitate to advocate for yourself because you assume it’s “hopeless.”
- You disconnect from your own body because you’re told its worth is a single score.

Meanwhile, what actually moves the needle for many women over 35–45 is shockingly unsexy and profoundly powerful:

- Consistent, high-quality sleep so hormones can recalibrate at night.
- Genuine ovulation tracking through body literacy (cervical mucus, basal temperature), not just apps and strips.
- Gut health that allows you to actually absorb the fats, nutrients, and antioxidants that build hormones and egg quality.
- Relationship and sexual health that supports real intimacy and orgasms, which increase feel‑good and bonding hormones for both partners.

None of that shows up in your AMH result.

If you’ve been made to feel like your AMH is a verdict, not a data point, I want you to hear this clearly:

Your lab report is not your destiny.
Your “low AMH” is not your identity.
You are allowed to stay hopeful and strategic at the same time.

I’m curious: have you ever left an appointment feeling smaller and more shut down after hearing your numbers? If yes, what do you wish that provider had said instead?

Ch-a Mosley - Pregnancy Over Forty

I've traveled to multiple continents.

Lived in Spain.

Swam in the Great Barrier Reef.

Yet some of the places I most want to visit are places I've never been.

Japan.
South Africa.
China.
Canada.

One lesson I've learned:
Accomplishing a dream doesn't eliminate the desire for new ones.

It creates room for them.

What's still on your bucket list?

Ch-a Mosley - Pregnancy Over Forty

Last month, I challenged members of my private community to do something simple:

Reach out to another woman and tell her what you appreciate about her.

Send the text.
Write the message.
Leave the comment.

Tell her how she's encouraged you, inspired you, supported you, or made your life better.

Why?

Because most people are carrying battles we know nothing about.

The woman who seems confident may be questioning herself.

The woman encouraging everyone else may need encouragement too.

Never underestimate the power of reminding someone of their value.

A few sincere words can change the course of someone's entire day.

And sometimes the greatest gift we can give another person is helping them see what makes them extraordinary.

Ch-a Mosley - Pregnancy Over Forty

What Is Already Good?

One of the unintended consequences of pursuing a big goal, is that we can become obsessed with what's missing.

The promotion hasn't happened yet.
The business isn't where we want it to be.
The baby isn't here yet.

When we're focused on the gap, we often overlook what's already good.

Recently, I've been encouraging women to ask themselves two questions:
What do I genuinely love about myself?
What do I genuinely love about my life right now?

Not someday.
Not after the next milestone.
Right now.

The answers can be surprisingly powerful.

To me, gratitude isn't needing everything to be perfect. It never is.

It's recognizing that even in seasons of uncertainty, there is still beauty, growth, and goodness worth appreciating.

Sometimes the most important thing we can do is stop and notice it.

Ch-a Mosley - Pregnancy Over Forty

Before I became a mom, I wasn't sitting around waiting for motherhood to begin.

I was living.

I was taking bike rides.

Going to the beach with friends.

Traveling.

Trying new experiences.

Making memories.

Building a life that felt full and meaningful.

In fact, my pregnancy was a complete surprise.

I wasn't creating adventures because I was trying to get pregnant.

I was creating adventures because I believed life was worth enjoying.

Today, I see so many women put their lives on hold while pursuing a dream.

Everything becomes about the next appointment, the next cycle, the next milestone.
But here's what I want to remind you:

Your life has value before the baby arrives.
Your life has meaning before the baby arrives.
Your life deserves joy before the baby arrives.

And if motherhood is part of your future, your child won't be arriving into a life that suddenly became beautiful the day they were born.

They'll be arriving into a life you've already filled with love, friendship, purpose, growth, and adventure.

Don't wait for permission to start living.

Life is happening right now.

Who truly understands what you're carrying on your fertility journey?

Not who loves you.

Not who means well.

Who actually understands?

One of the things I've learned from building my private Pregnancy Over 40 community is that information is only part of what women need.

Yes, they need evidence-based information.

Yes, they need knowledgeable healthcare providers.

But they also need conversations.

Conversations where they don't have to explain why another negative test hurts.

Conversations where no one tells them to "just relax."

Conversations with women who understand the weight of trying to conceive while navigating careers, aging parents, relationships, finances, and the realities of getting older.

Over the past month inside our community, we've talked about protecting hope, creating healthier boundaries, investing in ourselves while waiting, and supporting one another through the emotional side of fertility.

Those conversations matter.

Because sometimes what carries a woman forward isn't another statistic.

It's realizing she isn't walking this journey by herself.

That's the kind of community I'm committed to building.

Ch-a Mosley - Pregnancy Over Forty

A lesson I learned long before I became a mother at 47:

Not everyone deserves a front-row seat to your dream.

Some people will encourage you.

Some will question you and project their fears, and limitations onto you.

Your job isn't to convince everyone.
Your job is to protect what matters.

Whether your dream is becoming a mother, building a business, changing careers, or starting over after loss...

Be intentional about who gets access to your vulnerability.

Last month, my Private Pregnancy Over 40 community spent time doing a Friendship & Family Audit.

What became clear is that many women are carrying not only the weight of their fertility journey, but also the weight of everyone else's opinions about it.

That's a burden no one needs.

Hope grows best in the company of people who know how to nurture it.

Choose your company wisely.

Ch-a Mosley - Pregnancy Over Forty

Fertility struggles have a way of revealing the truth about our relationships.

I hear stories of partners who attend every appointment, learn every acronym, and quietly hold space for the grief.

I also hear stories of partners who weaponize age, threaten to leave, or talk about finding someone “younger and more fertile.”

There’s a big difference between two people under pressure, and one person using that pressure to control, shame, or punish the other.

You can want a baby more than anything and still say:

“I will not accept threats or emotional abuse.”
“My desire for a child does not make me desperate or disposable.”
“I’m willing to leave help if this dynamic doesn’t change.”

For anyone reading this who supports women on this path: remember to ask about their relationship safety, not just their ovarian reserve. Sometimes the biggest risk factor in their journey isn’t age—it’s the emotional environment they’re trying to conceive in.
