Top Cities for Women in India 2025: Bengaluru Leads, Chennai Shines on Social Inclusion
The Top Cities for Women in India 2025 report highlights how Indian cities are progressing in creating inclusive urban ecosystems that enable women’s safety, participation, and economic mobility. The rankings underscore a critical insight: cities that successfully balance industrial growth with strong social infrastructure consistently perform better in overall inclusion.
Bengaluru has once again secured its position as the top city for women in India, achieving a City Inclusion Score (CIS) of 53.29. The city’s leadership is driven by sustained strength in industrial inclusion, career opportunities, and workforce enablement, reinforcing its role as a preferred destination for women professionals. Chennai follows closely in second place with a CIS of 49.86, continuing to lead on social inclusion parameters. The city performs strongly across safety mechanisms, public services, mobility initiatives, and access to health and education, making it one of the most socially supportive urban environments for women in the country.
Completing the top five are Pune (46.27), Hyderabad (46.04), and Mumbai (44.49), each demonstrating relatively consistent performance across both social and industrial inclusion indicators. Among these, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Pune stand out for their balanced inclusion profiles, where social infrastructure aligns well with industrial ecosystems, enabling sustained workforce participation for women.
Gurugram records one of the most notable upward movements in 2025, climbing to rank six from ninth place in 2024. Its rise is supported by rapid industrial expansion and a strong corporate presence. However, the report cautions that cities such as Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida—while strong on industrial inclusion—continue to lag on social indicators like safety, affordability, and mobility, reinforcing that industrial growth alone does not guarantee inclusive urban environments.
The findings also highlight contrasting city profiles. Mumbai, for instance, shows strong industrial inclusion with an IIS of 69.00 but comparatively weaker social inclusion, with a Social Inclusion Score (SIS) of 38.44. This points to persistent challenges around affordability and access to infrastructure despite abundant employment opportunities. Conversely, cities such as Thiruvananthapuram, Shimla, and Tiruchirappalli demonstrate strong social inclusion outcomes but limited industrial depth, constraining large-scale formal employment opportunities for women despite robust social foundations.
A notable trend in the 2025 rankings is the increased representation of Tier-2 cities among higher ranks, signalling a gradual decentralisation of women-friendly urban ecosystems beyond major metropolitan centres.
From a regional perspective, Southern India emerges as the most inclusive region for women, recording the highest scores across all three indices, with a regional average CIS of 21.60, SIS of 27.81, and IIS of 11.61. This reflects a more integrated approach to safety, health, education, and industrial participation. The Western region follows closely, with strong and consistent performance and the highest regional IIS of 12.01, supported by relatively mature industrial ecosystems and enabling social conditions. In contrast, Central and Eastern regions continue to trail across both social and industrial inclusion dimensions, particularly industrial inclusion . Overall, the report reinforces a key conclusion drawn consistently from 2022 to 2025: cities that achieve convergence between Industrial Inclusion (IIS) and Social Inclusion (SIS) rank higher on overall City Inclusion (CIS). Sustainable industrial growth, the findings suggest, is most effective when supported by safe, accessible, and equitable urban environments that allow women to fully participate and thrive.

Apollo Hospitals Diagnoses Complex Angina with Advanced CMD Assessment; First Patient treated in Chennai
One day, non-surgical evaluation enables precise targeted treatment and rapid recovery for patients with unexplained chest pain Chennai, 6 January 2026: Apollo Hospitals, Greams Lane Chennai, has successfully diagnosed and managed a complex case of angina using advanced Coronary Microvascular Dysfunction (CMD) assessment, marking one of the first such cases in the city. The patient, a 62-year-old woman, had been experiencing persistent chest pain for several months despite having no significant blockages on a routine coronary angiogram.
Angina is chest discomfort that occurs when the heart does not receive enough oxygen-rich blood. While it is most often linked to coronary artery disease, a subset of patients continue to experience symptoms even when major arteries appear normal. This condition, medically termed Angina with Non-Obstructive Coronary Arteries (ANOCA), is increasingly recognised, especially among women with risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, anaemia, and anxiety.
The patient, who had been under follow-up at Apollo Hospitals for six months, underwent CMD assessment using a specialised diagnostic wire. This test evaluates the function of the heart’s smallest blood vessels, helping doctors identify microvascular causes of angina that are not visible on standard angiography. Based on the findings, the patient was started on targeted medical therapy and showed significant improvement within a day.
Leading the treatment, Dr. Refai Showkathali, Senior Consultant Intervention Cardiologist, Apollo Hospitals, Greams Lane Chennai said, “This is a common but often underdiagnosed problem. Many patients, especially women, are told their angiogram is normal and continue to suffer from chest pain. CMD assessment allows us to pinpoint the exact cause of symptoms and tailor medical treatment accordingly. This case is significant as it represents one of the first such diagnostic evaluations performed in Chennai using this advanced technology.”
The CMD assessment was completed in a single day and did not require surgery, ICU care, or prolonged hospital stay. The patient was discharged within 24 hours and is currently doing extremely well on medical management. Dr. Ilankumaran Kaliamoorthy, Chief Executive Officer - Chennai Region, Apollo Hospitals, said, “Being among the first hospitals in Chennai to offer CMD assessment reinforces our commitment to precision medicine and patient-centric care. This advanced diagnostic enables timely, accurate detection of complex or unexplained chest pain, ensuring patients receive the most effective treatment for better outcomes.”
While CMD assessment has been performed in a limited number of hospitals across India, only a handful of cases have been evaluated so far, and this marks a notable step forward for cardiac care in Chennai. Dr Refai Showkathali advises that individuals with persistent chest pain should seek appropriate evaluation, as accurate diagnosis is key to effective treatment and better outcomes.

Madras High Court Records Prima Facie Defamation; Grants Interim Injunction Against India Research Watch
Chennai, December, 2025: The Hon’ble Madras High Court has recorded a finding of prima facie defamation and granted interim injunctive relief restraining India Research Watch from publishing or circulating any material concerning Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS) without first obtaining SIMATS’ consent and without fairly placing SIMATS’ version, opinion, and response on record.
Appearing for SIMATS, learned Senior Counsel Mr. Silambannan submitted that the impugned publications were based on misrepresentation of evidence and selective suppression of comparative data, resulting in a distorted and misleading narrative. It was argued that India Research Watch selectively highlighted data relating to a few institutions, while omitting material information concerning other institutions which, by the same metrics, reportedly recorded substantially higher retraction levels.
The Court was further informed that Mr. Achal Agarwal, Founder of India Research Watch, had authored and caused publication of multiple articles singling out SIMATS without placing complete, primary, and verifiable evidence on record. It was pointed out that, in his own public writings and opinion pieces, Mr. Agarwal had expressly acknowledged that retractions do not, by themselves, establish academic malpractice, and may arise due to heightened scrutiny and attention. Despite this acknowledgment, adverse publications were allegedly continued without balance, context, or an opportunity for institutional response.
Senior Counsel also submitted that institutions such as Anna University and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) reportedly had significantly higher retraction counts, yet were not subjected to comparable adverse coverage. This, it was argued, demonstrated selective targeting, undermining claims of neutrality or bona fide public-interest commentary.
It was further contended that certain retractions concerning SIMATS followed persistent and coordinated communications addressed to journals by India Research Watch and associated collaborators, and that these outcomes were subsequently relied upon to publish further adverse material, thereby creating a self-reinforcing and circular narrative that compounded reputational harm.
Upon considering the pleadings and submissions, the Hon’ble Court held that the materials disclosed a clear prima facie case of defamation warranting immediate interim protection. Accordingly, a prima facie injunction was granted restraining India Research Watch from publishing any adverse material against SIMATS without due notice, consent, and inclusion of SIMATS’ response. The Court clarified that the issue of a mandatory injunction would be examined after completion of trial, upon full adjudication of evidence.
SIMATS reiterated its commitment to academic integrity, transparency, and lawful scrutiny, while affirming that selective disclosure, suppression of material facts, and one-sided publications cannot claim the protection of fair comment or responsible free speech.

In contrast, Central and Eastern regions continue to trail across both social and industrial inclusion dimensions, particularly industrial inclusion
.

One day, non-surgical evaluation enables precise targeted treatment and rapid recovery for patients with unexplained chest pain
Chennai, 6 January 2026: Apollo Hospitals, Greams Lane Chennai, has successfully diagnosed and managed a complex case of angina using advanced Coronary Microvascular Dysfunction (CMD) assessment, marking one of the first such cases in the city.

Chennai: The Congregation of the Brothers of St. Patrick, popularly known as the Patrician Brothers, is marking 150 years of dedicated service in India, celebrating a legacy built on education, faith and social commitment. Founded in Ireland in 1808, the Patrician mission took root in India in 1875 when three Irish brothers arrived in Chennai to educate and empower young minds, establishing their first institution in the city.
Since then, the Patrician Brothers have grown into a nationwide educational force, nurturing generations of students through 27 institutions across India, while also extending their mission globally with schools in Ghana, Africa, since 2007. The sesquicentennial celebrations commemorate not just longevity, but a journey of trust, transformation and service to society.
The milestone is being observed with a solemn Thanksgiving Eucharistic Celebration to be led by Most Rev. Dr. Jeevanandham Amalanathan, Bishop of Kumbakonam, on December 27, 2025, at Adyar, Chennai.
