LUSAFRICA was created in 1988. At first based on cape verdean music, the label meets its first success in 1991 with Cesaria Evora who becomes a major World Music icon on the planet. After her, a number of Cape verdean talents rise such as Lura, Teofilo Chantre, Tcheka, Mario Lucio, Bau... The company also enlarged its fields of action with other areas represented by artists like Bonga (Angola), Boubacar Traoré (Mali), Sia Tolno (Guinea), Boulpik (Haïti), Mounira Mitchala (Chad), Pierre Akendengue (Gabon).
